It's honestly disgusting how so many broken updates and DLC get churned out.

without ANY real attention given to fixing bugs that have been in the game for years.

Cottage living still spawns multiples of the same towny. Neighborhoods will get flooded with NPCs that are suddenly "global superstars". Weddings do not work. Sims still twist like pretzels when petting animals. What could possibly be the justification for releasing even more DLC, themselves chock-full of bugs, before any of these issues are fixed?

Why exactly should anyone buy the high school pack when even your update to add gender preferences has game-breaking bugs? Mod creators who make Sims content for free seem more competent than whoever is making these updates, and that's not even close to hyperbole.

  • @Backstabbath88 Agreed. On console we can't even use mods to help.
I'm pretty annoyed, I thought this update would help with issues I'm having but I'm not even going to attempt it. I'll just update, leave it alone and they will obviously have to sort this mess out.
  • I'm not saying this as an excuse or as an accusation.

The Sims 4 revenue stream is built on DLC. No DLC, no money. If we want patches and bugfixes and new features, developers need to get paid.

So, if you look at other possible revenue models for other games, there are:

    • Monthly access fees/subscriptions (more common with online games)
    • Microtransactions (Each hair or couch costs $1-5 in the online store!)
    • Buy once, never get DLC, never get patches.
    • Or, of course: Buy once, hype lots of awesome DLC!

I don't know. I mean. I don't think there's a perfect revenue model. My own company went from a "Okay you bought [productname] 3 for [number of] users so you get all patches for [productname] 3 but when [productname] 4 comes out you need to buy it again, also you need to buy more users if you get more users" to "You have an annual subscription to [productname] for [number of] users and get all updates." We did this for a variety of reasons, but:

    1. Support is AWFUL if you have people on eleventy different versions of your product. Just put people on one version of the product already!

    2. Bugfixes: they're not free to produce and how many versions back are we going to backport our bugfixes?

    3. If people want more features, we have to pay developers, so they need to pay us more so we can pay them.

I suspect that if The Sims 4 went annual or monthly subscription after 8 years there would be a revolution, but I'll bet good money that the Sims 5 will be subscription.

@xochiquetzl_xkvnI know that their revenue model involves releasing new content frequently. I know that leaves little time for quality assurance. and the devs have to make money somehow.

    However.

EA has a long, storied history of destroying beloved franchises with this exact sort of mishandling of their games and generally abysmal QA standards. Mass Effect, Ultima, Command & Conquer, Sim City, Crysis, Burnout, Titanfall, Fight Night, possibly Dragon Age.... just to name a few.

The Sims is entirely propped up with the good will of the fanbase, and that good will is a very finite commodity. If this is what we can expect of patches and DLC for Sims 4, Sims 5 will almost surely be the last Sims game, and won't even have good enough sales for them to release kits for.

  • And I called it: the high school pack is bugged to hell too.

EA, do you do any QA testing on your products?

  • This update and expansion destroyed my current game. I put a lot of work and effort into it, and it's totally screwed up right now. I know it's just a game, but when you've put time into something it sucks to see it completely messed up by a hurriedly released update. I'm not going to stop playing; unfortunately I'm too obsessed for that. But I agree, it's frustrating and obnoxious that stuff comes out and things are still buggy af. Can we fix the old stuff before we add even more broken stuff? 💔

Edit: Other dumb stuff has happened since I posted this, so I've decided to not play at all until a patch comes out. 😒 I'm so disappointed.

I agree especially after youve put a lot of money into this game.  An update comes out so many updates wish theyd give you a choice whether you want it especially if your game is running well.  Ive been having problems for months and there is no one to help.

In past I've always purchased new addons but refuse to put any more money into this game.  Have no desire to even purchase this Sims 5 when they put it out. I'm truly disappointed and plan not to give them any more of my money if I ever get this game working again.
