Kid Taken After Parent Dies

Why is a child taken when a parent dies instead of the other parent being given the option to take in the child?

Wouldn't it make sense to give players the option to add the child to the households of other young adult/adult family members? If they don't like kids make sure it shows up with a dialogue box for a player to see so they have to really weigh if placing a child with that Sim is a good choice or not.

  • @Sacrews I've never had this problem before, but yeah I could see how it wouldn't make sense for some NPC to just take it without it giving you the option of placing with family member (provided you didn't just have a single parent),so I agree the game should ask where you'd want to place the child if the afforemention happened.

I was playing with a friend and she mentioned that she had walked away from her game and it was at the Manage Worlds area upon returning when she had been in-game. She checked the log and saw where the mom died and the child was taken. According to my friend the parents weren't together anymore and she hadn't tried to maintain a friendly relationship between the 2, though she had the other parent begin one with the child as a toddler.

I feel like if the single parent dies then if the other parent has an established relationship with the child (preferably more than acquaintance) then the parent should be given the option to take on the child. If the other parent doesn't then anyone else that may be related to the child and has a relationship should get the option.

I have a sim that is married and her mother just became a vampire so if she dies and her wife dies also her mom should be given the chance to raise the kid.

  • @Sacrews that's actually a really good idea, though I have no idea how this could be coded into the game, but it's something I never really thought about before.
