Moving things into the fridge from household inventory

Hope I didn't miss an existing thread here:

When moving the household to another house, all fruits etc from anything planted end up in the household inventory. It'd be nice to be able to move them directly into the fridge in the new house, instead of putting them into the house one by one and then moving them into the fridge.

Or is there already a trick to it I'm hitherto unaware of?

  • @MeltingPenguins I've never had that happen in my game. When I move to a new lot, all of the contents of the old refrigerator automatically transfer to the refrigerator at the new residence and not to my household inventory. I tested this just now to verify.

Here are a couple of things I guess you can try:

    • Make sure you pick "Furnished" while you are in the Moving menu so that there is already a refrigerator at the new residence at the time of your move.
    • Pre-pack all of the household items that you want to keep from your old residence into your household inventory before you move. Don't pack the contents of your refrigerator, just leave those where they are. Choose the option to Sell your furniture (i.e. the things you didn't want to keep) while in the Moving menu.

If you sell your old refrigerator and there is a new refrigerator at the new residence, all of the contents should automatically transfer.

Good luck, I hope this helps :D

@RandomBuzziness Oh, I didn't mean the contents of the fridge.

I meant the plants if I haven't harvested them yet upon moving.

Like, if you have a bellpepper bush in a planting pot for example and move. The bush and the bellpeppers will be moved to the household inventory.

@MeltingPenguins Oh OK i got ya :D For something like that I would just super-sell all the harvestables that morning and move the plants into my household inventory before moving. After the move I place the plants in Build mode and then it's back to business as usual (i.e however you would normally harvest or sell your harvestables). I only keep a small inventory of fruits and veggies in my refrigerator for cooking meals & I super-sell all the rest.

@RandomBuzziness I'm the same way. Keeping the entire list of household items is a pain to sort through. I just super-sell plants, stick anything I want to keep in inventory and sell everything else.

One thing I was just thinking... I've recently started using the chest (forget the name) to store collectables so they don't clutter up the sim's inventory. When moving, if you just place the chest in inventory, all the items that were in there stay there, right? I suppose you could use that to store a bunch of stuff and want to keep them together and out of the main houshold inventory list...

@Psychotps  I assume you mean the chest than came with DU.  If you leave stuff in the chest and just drop the chest into a sim's personal inventory, I have found things tend to disappear.  It's hit or miss too.  So it's best to move all the stuff in the chest to the sim's personal inventory then drop the chest in the inventory before you move.

@CGrant56 I like to use the storage chests from Jungle Adventure. I can keep them outside and they look like a stone decoration :D I can keep the other types of storage chests outside too, of course, but to me they look out of place when stored outside (that's just me though). I'm pretty sure that while moving I can put the storage chest in my household inventory and all of the contents will stay in the chest during the move. When I place it at my new residence the contents will still be inside. I'll test this today though.

@RandomBuzziness I usually use the Ornate Beauty or Buyer Beware to store collectables. Got tired of making fancy displays. It would be very nice if I can just drop the entire chest into the household inventory if I want to move.

@RandomBuzziness  I haven't tried with the JA chests.  Those work the same as the other two right?

@Psychotps  I thought you were talking about the DU chests were you can store an individual sim's stuff.  They can be dragged into a sim's inventory and keep stuff separately from other chests and the other's can't.  Before DU, all the chests on a lot shared a common inventory.  The DU chests don't.  I'll have to check, but I seem to recall that if you dropped one of those chests into the household inventory when it was full then everything inside disappeared.  That may have changed since I last tried it which has been a long time ago.
