My suggestions to improve lots in the sims 4

Here are some ideas of what I think would make really good improvements to the functionality of lots in the sims 4:

1) Dual type lots

It would be so cool if it was possible to support a dual lot type feature. It would really be nice to have multiple types of lots applied to one lot (ie to have a residential lot built on top of a store or a retail store that is also a vet clinic)? So that travelling sims could arrive on the lot to use things/behave the same way that they would on both lot types? We could also have a feature that’s like an add on to the locked door feature currently in the game with an option to only allow sims using 1 of the 2 lot types to enter. So for example: if you wanted the lot to be a haunted house residential attached to a cafe you could click on the front door of the home part and click an option under lock door that says something like “only allow visitors using haunted home residential venue” or “disallow visitors visiting cafe venue” That way residents and their visitors could get into their homes without random sims entering their home while the cafe is open.

2) have more lot traits/challenges specifically designed for non residential lots like the “clothing optional” trait and “landfill” challenge

The landfill challenge is mega cool and lets you effectively make a landfill out of a generic lot or other lot. If we had lot traits that worked similarly we could make many more custom lots ourselves or add to existing ones ie. maybe you could add a “no roughhousing” lot challenge which meant that if your sim got caught fighting (on the lot the trait was applied to) they could be kicked out (or even banned completely like you can get banned from rides in the high school stories pack)? Or a death depository lot trait which would make townie/unplayed household urns/graves appear or be left in the lot (which could allow you to effectively make a graveyard/cemetery)

3) add an extension to the roommate feature where instead of assigning just a bed you can assign a room. You could have a feature for homes where you can click on a door and click “selective access” instead of lock door and then a list including your household members and all roommates would appear and you could select all the ones allowed in that room. That way if two sims were sharing a room those two could keep your sims and other roommates out but still use the room themselves. This feature could be useful even for households without roommates as you could use it to make rooms off limits to some members of a household but not all (ie makes kids free zones in a house with multiple adults so that granny and grandpa could chat with their kids away from their grandkids or have a teen room that they can keep their parents and siblings out of but allow visitors like their friends into)

4) also please please add cemeteries lol

Yes cemeteries! I do miss having a cemetery in my game and often think back to TS3 days in Sunset Valley, there was one that sat on top of the hill with a stunning view of the whole town.

At this point in time though with TS4 I do not think EA will add one, but I'm sure you would be able to find some on the gallery.

I think there could be a way you could create a cemetery, especially if you have the Paranormal pack.

In terms of suitable lots for the sake of discussion, the Deadgrass lot in Brindleton Bay is already pretty spooky and I find it a bit superfluous as it is right now. But it does have an eerie vibe already with the ghost pets floating around. I tried holding a wedding there once and may as well have held it in a cemetery as after dark it got pretty creepy. After that I didn't really feel like I knew what to do with it as a lot. Imagine a deserted or ruined church there though!

The sculptures in decor could help you out, plus the effects from the Paranormal pack and if you own Vampires or Werewolves then that would give you added EEEK!!!!!

Personally I'm really squeamish and considered myself to be a real hero for adding Paranormal in the first place!

As for dual lots that's a good idea too. I try and do something similar myself by using the generic lot trait but sometimes NPC Sims don't visit generic lots and it can be hit and miss. So I have a gallery/library/internet cafe which does pretty well. I have private residences attached to retail lots. I have food courts with ice/roller rinks. I modify the gyms to include somewhere to sleep for travelling Sims and I've made hotels but created them as bars, since there are no hotels in the game. I try and find a workaround, but dual lot types would make it a bit easier.

Edit: I've added examples of some of my multi purpose lots on this thread https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/Share-Your-Newest-The-Sims-4-Creations-Here/m-p/11776390/highlight/false#M66040

Ive built a club on a lot designated for clubs and placed lots of gravestones next to it in a seperate area of the lot. Best method to create cemeteries right now. You can even do this with any public lot type. For sims its essentially a cemetery.

I would really like a feature for us to move lots and place new lots where we want. There is so much wasted space in some worlds like forgotten hollow where I really like more smaller lots or one GIANT lot to build what I desire. Or cottage living has huge space on the right side of the map yet only two lots with the rest just wasted negative space. The devs always tell us this is because of the budget for game packs and expansions which makes absolutely no sense especially considering the five tiny lots in get to work which is the smallest world in the game and thats an expansion!
