New Player needs help with game update today and Mods.

There is a new update today and since the last one I have added a ton of mods- large and small. I have not organized them at all  in my Mods folder- they are all just in there individually (I am not clear how to do this). In previous updates I only had like MCC and a couple others. How- step by step- should I be dealing with this mess of mods and cc in my mods folder and be prepared for today's update. I hear I can break my game if I don't handle this correctly. Please help!

  • @annh1996 It's probably easiest to rename your user folder to The Sims 4_Backup or something and then just let the game create a new one when starting the game.

After that, play on a backup of your save or a new save altogether until we know what the patch breaks (all your stuff is still in the mods folder). To play on a backup, simply copy the save files from the backup folder to the newly generated one.

Luthianrising usually has a thread at the official forum that lets you know which mods are broken (I'll link it later in the main thread here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/INFORMATION-Common-Game-Fixing-Mods-Hero-Approved/td-p/9836185/jump-to/first-unread-message). Check which mods are outdated and which are not and get the newest versions or put them back in your mods folder if they are ok.

I would start organizing them somehow while doing so.

  • @annh1996 Crinrict has given you a good suggestion for dealing with the patch update and link for info on what mods/cc are definitely known to be broken. I just want to refer you to a video by TwistedMexi about organizing mod folders. Under the browse more section he even links a download for template to use in a mods folder. Even if you don't use his template it should give you an idea of how to go about organizing.

LOL, I'm not even using mods/cc in my saves and I thoroughly enjoyed the good information in his video. I even did the template download, in case I change my mind.

Video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv9MtszTd9Y I hope the video helps you organize your thoughts about how you want to organize your mods folder.
