Picnic baskets really just upset me

I'm just so disappointed that we can't just place the picnic basket anywhere on the ground and use it. It's basically pointless because I can just put food in my sims inventory and go to a picnic table. I also miss the little details like how ants used to come in the sims 3. Is anyone else upset about this?😢
