Please allow player added households instead of generating townies

Townies keep generating at an alarming pace, bloating my saves and pushing the game towards the start of the dreaded culling process.
Can we please have an option to allow in-game households to be checked for usage in a scenario before random generation?
I would also be fine with NPCs get plucked from the gallery so at least I can see the creations of other players roam around if need be.

  • @EsperAngel I deleted 120 npc townies and used larger gallery families to replace what I deleted. It has helped at least in an aesthetic way and to some extent interacting with them is more enjoyable though I tend not to interact

    However, the culling is real.

My households (I have about 40 in this save) tend to show up the most if they were in recent rotation but the number of npc bloat I have is insane. I would love a better npc system. I just don't need 120 mixologists and background sims who tend to just disrupt every conversation.

I have to reintroduce my sims regularly and can't have many celebs as a result
  • @EsperAngel This is one reason I create my own townies and delete those crazy looking ones that game create and I also create my own mail carrier and college students NPC

I don’t like it either. Townies have the most hilarious Fasching style. I delete most townies after a week.

In my modded game I have bienchen lessfame mod. I play a while without this mod and when I think I have enough townies I add it back in my mod folder. I don’t like hidden strays and aliens, so I have the two modules always in my game. These two works without the main module.

I just wish the vanilla game would stop after 100 townies; this are enough townies to fill all rolls. I don’t use the gallery and per default I play sims only in offline modus so I would preference that the game stop after 50-100.

if the game at least checked for available townies instead of churning them out anyway, this issue wouldn't exist at all

  • @EsperAngel A toggle where the option is either to import the Sims from the gallery, or a random generated townies? That would be cool!

I agree! I hate the NPCs and townies that are automatically added to the game! They are so annoying.. most are aliens and really ugly sims 😂 I hate to keep having to delete them only for MORE to automatically be added to the game! Please give us an option to turn off adding NPC characters!!

Yeah, I have MCCC set to import townies from my tray so they'll be less hideous. I don't know why otherwise every single one of them RNGs mismatched clothes/illogical combinations of items/every conceivable accessory possible, but... good grief. (Actually I do, and it's because the RNG clothing algorithm is... more complicated than you might think and therefore the existing one produces hideousness most of the time.)

The problem with MCCC tray import is that if you marry one the game will spawn a doppleganger.  😉 ("Oh hey, Samantha Jones doesn't exist any more, let's spawn a new Samantha Jones because we need a barfly!" Uh, Samantha Jones married my Sim and is now Samantha Smith and it's kind of confusing to have an identical Samantha running around...)

(That said, they also get pulled in with random traits and random jobs.)

There are mods that are supposed to stop NPC generation but it looks like the one that is most often referred to as working is behind a paywall and I'm unwilling to support that practice.
