8 years agopresident's day sale??
Hi, I recently got back into the sims 4. I haven't played since the get to work expansion and I see all the new ones I'd like to purchase! I read online that I recently missed the February 9th sale ...
Sorry, I forgot to reply to @CMeki from an earlier post! ๐คญ Yes! Lunar New Year is huge! Some restaurants here offer some special dishes for the occasion that are only available during this time! ๐ฅณ That is wonderful that you were in Asia last year during the Lunar New Year! ๐
Yes! My husband and I love the movie "Groundhog Day"! โค๏ธ I always found it odd that while animals often can give us signs about the weather or when the change of seasons will happen, the inventors of this holiday pick the one thing that really wouldn't give us a true indication of such changes! ๐:eahigh_file: Maybe if they make a Seasons type EP for The Sims 4, they can add a groundhog to help our Sims predict Spring! ๐ :eahigh_file:
Oh, that's nice! :D While I love "western Chinese food", the food that they actually eat in China is sometimes quite scary. I'm happy I do not eat meat because my friends got some really weird things sometimes! Although they do have amazing food too, you just have to learn Chinese to order the right things haha! (I studied Mandarin for two years but that's not enough to make out what the menus say) ๐ I'm sure that more expensive restaurants are better at having menus in English, but we were poor students (Hong Kong is expensive), so we usually went to small street restaurants!
I would love to have some special dishes here too though, to change up it a bit. The closest restaurant to my home is one called ChinaThai, so it would be a good opportunity for them! :D
Haha omg, yes, the groundhog in The Sims would be so funny. They're like the size of a cat, so maybe they could add it as an add-on cat-race in Cats&Dogs and also have it in Seasons for those who do not have Cats&Dogs, but not ownable. Maybe as a festival, like the ones in City Living, and the groundhog was there during that event in some form! :eahigh_file:
@CMeki, I would have replied earlier but coincidently my husband and I went on a mini-vacation because he was off work for President's Day! ๐ :eahigh_file: We have never done that before, but we were supposed to go on a short vacation last month but I got a sinus infection and he got the flu, so we postponed it because he was off for Pres.Day. The hotel we stayed at had a big celebration the week before for the Lunar New Year, so that is a coincidence as well! ๐ But it ended the day before we got there.โน๏ธ
Yes, food recipes from the country of origin to another country always undergo some changes. But then again, food from one region of a country can differ a lot from food in another region of the same country, especially if the country is large! I've seen some strange things on the television show The Amazing Race! I've also seen some travel show that was talking about Asian dishes , and I was pleased to learn that several of the dishes that came with the City Living EP were actual dishes in those countries! ๐
As for Chinese food, I love spicy food so I usually like Sichuan or Hunan styles of food over Cantonese or other styles. I also really love sour foods, so Hot & Sour soup is my favorite! โค๏ธ
Yes, while ordering food in any language you don't speak fluently can be problematic, the difficulties with trying to read a whole writing system that you aren't that familiar with would be scary when ordering food -- I can see how a translator would be needed! ๐ฎ๐
I'm always look forward to new food in The Sims games, so I'm excited that the Jungle Adventure GP will have new foods! ๐ฅณ
I love the idea of having a Groundhog Day Festival in The Sims 4! I think it would be extremely funny! ๐:eahigh_file:โค๏ธ And you are right in that it should be doable now that we have Cats & Dogs for a framework. Or we could have giant groundhogs if they utilize the bear and raccoon costumes already in the game! ๐
CHAMPION! Congrats and Welcome! :eahigh_file: ๐ฅณ
Well, it's good that you're both better now! (Couple goals getting sick at the same time) ๐
Too bad you missed the celebration though...
Yeah, I love watching food shows, even though I can't always cook the same things, but Indin food has a lot of vegetarian food, so that's great, and you can always make your own version of the recipe! I've actually eaten all the Indin, vetnamese, Chinese and Japanese food in City Living, but not the Philipino, Mexican or Moroccan. We do eat "Mexican food", but I think it's very Swedish-Mexican food haha. On Fridays, everyone in Sweden eats Tacos. ๐ฟ
Yeah, my boyfriend is a chili-lover (especially when i rob him of the meat), so Hunan usually fits us the best, though I think the Cantonese kitchen is one of the most common in Sweden. I've never heard of Hot&Sour soup, but it sounds like something we would et, and looking at a recipe it seems easy to remove the meat! I'll try it sometime! ๐
Yeh, I wonder what type of food they'll be, or have they said already? Anyway, it will be fun, I'm really excited!
Hahaha omg, a groundhog costume XD Yes that would really be something to see! ๐
Btw @coltcolt81
There's a sale for the Sims now, check it out on Origin! :eahigh_file:
Haha great! :D Have fun gaming! :eahigh_file:
Yes, but as coltcolt's first post mentioned $ I thought it was a quite big chance they lived in the US, and I knew the US had the sale (VPN) ๐
But yes I know they're different, most often the percent of discount though but surely it could be some different games too, also because different games are available in different regions sometimes. But yes, I checked the US (and that they has the Sims on) before posting :P
I wouldn't know about other platforms, as my post was directed to coltcolt who obviously wanted the games on Origin in $, I did not make an official announcement about the sale of any kind ๐
Oh yeah look at that, we got an email, how neat! No idea lol xD
Emails like that are sorted as "campaigns" by my Gmail, which is nice, cuz then I only check that part of my email when I'm rich and actually have money to spend ๐
@coltcolt81, I'm so happy you found a sale and got some packs! ๐ฅณ
@CMeki, Thanks for the congratulations! ๐ I had noticed that you were also made Champion, but I didn't know that it was different from the other levels of participation (like newbie, guide, novice, etc.) so I just thought you must have posted a lot and gotten a bunch of ExP while I was busy getting ready for Christmas and then sick for a good part of January! ๐
Yes, we are extremely glad to be well now! ๐
I love to watch food shows too! I love to cook, but hate to clean up, so I cook less than I want to. ๐ณ Out of the City Living foods, while I've eaten some of the Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, and Moroccan foods in the City Living, I haven't eaten all of them, but I've eaten several things not in the game. I've never had any of the Philippino foods in the game (I don't think I've had any at all!). Most of the City Living foods I've eaten are the Chinese and Mexican. I there are a lot of Vietnamese and Indian food places where I live, but since my husband won't eat these foods, I rarely get them. My dad and brothers won't eat them either, so my Mom and I used to go to Indian or Vietnamese places for lunch when I lived closer to her, but we haven't been in a while. And since I grew up in Texas, and my mother-in-law is of Mexican decent, I'm very familiar with northern Mexican food /Tex-Mex ! Her charro beans are to die for! โค๏ธ It is more like a bean soup. She uses bacon in it, but you could always use something like smoked paprika since you don't eat meat! โค๏ธ
And thank you for the article on Swedish Taco Fridays! I really enjoyed it! Tacos are so versatile, that you can use them as a canvas for anything! โค๏ธ In the U.S. we usually prefer our tacos on Tuesday and yes, it is actually called "Taco Tuesday"! ๐ (They mention it in the Lego Movie!) But in states that border Mexico, tacos are for everyday! ๐ฅณ
Your article stated that corn, cucumbers, and pineapple were considered odd. I've never had a taco with cucumber (zucchini and squash yes; cucumber no!) but there could be some regions of Mexico that use cucumber on tacos that I'm not aware of. Pineapple on tacos is very popular on the coast -- less so in the interior I think. It goes really well with seafood, but I've never seen it on a ground beef taco before. Corn is a staple of Mexican cooking (as well as with other cultures indigenous to the Americas), so this isn't strange at all. ๐
So you said you rob your boyfriend of meat -- i'm guessing he is meatless for your sake! That's sweet! ๐
Yes, you should be able to make Hot & Sour Soup the Vegan way. While there is usually a bit of pork, that is mostly for flavor and isn't really needed. Most recipes I've seen do have eggs or egg whites whipped into the broth, (like egg drop soup) but you can omit that. One restaurant I used to go to used cabbage instead! The most difficult thing to reproduce while staying Vegan would be the broth, because it is actually a pork stock (it will gel when refrigerated). But some kind of vegetable or mushroom stock might work, since mushrooms and bamboo shoots are the bulk of the soup! ๐
I saw part of the livestream on the Jungle Adventure GP and the only thing I remember seeing were several types of arepas, which are from South America (most notably Venezuela, I think)! As soon as I saw the food stand I said to myself, "I just know they are going to have arepas!" So, when the food stand had arepas, I was so proud of my self, I failed to see what else they had! ๐ณ:eahigh_file: Well, we will know in just a few days what other foods will be added with this GP to The Sims 4! ๐ฅณ I can't wait! Looks like a really fun pack! โค๏ธ
Ooh, bean soup sounds like something I could do! :D Smoked paprika is a good idea, thanks! :eahigh_file:
Seafood? I've never had seafood taco haha, do not believe that is a thing here! I always thought the Fish Taco in The Sims sounded strange, as we never have anything else than ground beef in out taco here! And oh well I do Tofu Taco of course, but I use the same spices as for the ground beef๐ But cool to hear that this is actually a real thing! :D
I love pineapple on my taco, and I don't remember if the article said, but it's not that unusual to have bananas on your taco. I love that haha!
Yeah, my bf eats meat at his place when I'm away, and for lunch almost every day, so I guess he can survive a meatless dinner with me ^^ We both love cooking so we rather do it together than eat separate things๐ฟ
I should look to see if I find a recipe with cabbage and one with vegetable stock! Then I can work different recipes with other options together! Or I might find one with good vegan options, especially if someone from China has remade the recipe to a vegan one, though should know the taste and be able to compare it well! :eahigh_file: More and more options are coming every month, If I look online I might be able to find some ingredients that can replace the ones that come from animal and almost have the same taste and consistency๐ฅณ
Haha, I googled arepas, apparently, it's the same in Swedish! I guess we do not have our own name for it, I've never heard of it though! I've never crossed the Atlantic Ocean, so my food knowledge about that part of the world is rather limited. Going to someday though, when I have got the money to do it! As of now I won't even get this pack until it's on sale, as I cannot allow myself to spend that much money on games... :/
But in EU (maybe America too?) we have bundles with one game pack and two stuff packs. I hope that Jungle Adventures will come out as a bundle soon enough, usually takes maybe two months. I hope one of the stuff packs is laundry day, and then another one I do not have, and then I'll buy that bundle instead of the GP :D
Edit: spelling ๐
@CMeki, Yes the bean soup is fantastic! It is called either charro beans or borracha beans, the difference is that the borracha beans usually have beer or some type of alcohol in them since borracha means "drunken", but the alcohol is not necessary. You could also look under the category of "Mexican bean soups" or "Mexican bean dishes", or even "frijoles" which is the translation for beans in Spanish. One ingredient of this dish is cilantro (coriander leaves), but I don't know if you have that in Sweden or not. It is also used in Asian cooking, so you might have luck there if you have any Asian food stores near you. It doesn't have much flavor dried, so try to get fresh.
Speaking of Mexican bean dishes, I heard that one of the new harvestables in Jungle Adventure is "black beans"! Your Vegetarian Sims should be very happy with this! ๐ฅณ We are also getting avocados , and a new type of fruit that effects mood! ๐โค๏ธ
So, did you think that the Sims' "Fish Taco" was something made up for the game, or did you figure that it was just a type of taco that you hadn't heard of in your part of the world? ๐ค Seafood tacos are most popular in costal areas, but due to television channels like The Food Network, as well as the internet, seafood tacos are becoming more popular in more land-locked places. Tacos can be made with anything! Chicken is popular as is pork (called "carnitas"). Another type of taco that I love is still beef, but it isn't ground, and is made with brisket meat. I've had veggie tacos with mushrooms that were delicious! โค๏ธ (I love mushrooms!) I've even heard of duck tacos, avocado tacos, as well as octopus tacos. But the strangest two taco fillings (in my opinion) are grasshoppers and ant larvae! ๐ฎ ๐ค These are very popular in Mexico, and very high in nutrients. They might taste good but I don't thing I would like the textures. ๐ณ But I've never had pineapple on a beef taco! Maybe I should try it!?! I've had it on fish and shrimp tacos though.
Yeah, I thing your boyfriend can survive one meatless meal a day! ๐ But that is great that you two love to cook together! โค๏ธ Yes, for the Chinese "hot and sour soup", I would think either a mushroom broth, or a mushroom and vegetable broth would be good. Mushrooms should give the broth some depth that might otherwise be missing from a straight vegetable broth. It would be a good way to give the broth some "umami"! ๐
I love when our Sims get new foods in the game! When City Living came out, I was super excited! :eahigh_file: And I always have them eat as much as they can so they can cook those exotic recipes anytime they want! I wish I saw what else we will be getting in Jungle Adventure besides Arepas! That is so funny that "arepa" is the same in Swedish! ๐คจ Don't feel bad about never having been on this side of the Atlantic. I've never been on your side! I love to travel, but we don't have a lot of money either! I know some things about Scandinavia, but not a lot. I love watching food shows about other places in the world, but there are sooooo many place to learn about! ๐คจ Hopefully both of us will get a chance to travel across the ocean some day!
I also hope you can get Jungle Adventure soon! ๐ I understand about not being able to afford it right away. โน๏ธ 2 years ago I was very ill and had a major surgery so I couldn't play The Sims for many months ๐ข . I got way behind on all the Expansion Packs, Game Packs, and especially the Stuff Packs! ๐ Fortunatly, last summer there was the big Summer Sale and I was able to get most of the packs that I was missing! ๐ I finally caught up with everything by the time Cats & Dogs came out!
I hope you can find a bundle on sale of your missing packs where you live really soon! ๐ฅณ
