Questions About Death, Urns, Funerals

I'm totally confused here. I've been playing Sims since the original game came out, so I'm familiar with Grimmy and the death interactions. Now, in Sims 4, I have LIfe & Death installed, and yesterday I had a sim die from hunger. I am baffled by what did happen and unsure of what was supposed to happen.

The Grim Reaper did not appear. I received a pop-up asking if I wanted to make my deceased sim a playable ghost or a free-roaming ghost. I chose "playable" simply because I didn't want to completely lose any connection to her.

There is no urn anywhere that I can find. She had a will and had designated some heirlooms, but nothing came up about that (there are 3 surviving members plus 2 pets in the household.) Because I have no urn, I'm not sure if I can have a funeral.

Is my game just "glitched up" somehow? Is this a new sort of play for a sim's death?  If so, I don't think I like it. I expected Grimmy to show up, and the sim's husband would probably have pleaded for her life. He didn't have a chance.

I have MCCC, and I do have Scumbumbo's "Keep Book After Publishing" mod, although I don't see why that would create any conflict.

So, did my game just do something weird? Or is this what's going to happen any time a sims dies? As I said, I'm totally confused. This was not at all what I was expecting.

Thanks for any help here, friends!

  • Thanks. I did finally find the urn in her husband's inventory, and I was able to plan a funeral -- which was really nice. Her daughter (child) even gave a eulogy.  It's been several days now since she died, and I never thought to check the mailbox. I guess at this point my real question is "What happened to the Grim Reaper?"  He never appeared. But, the next day while playing another family Grimmy came and took a lot of hens from the chicken coop LOL!

I really do like being able to plan funerals. I didn't have much luck "dragging the remains" to a burial plot, so the urn is now sitting on top of a burial site in Ravenwood. Better than nothing!

  • The urn should be in your newly deceased sim’s inventory, I think. Did you check there?

There are parts of the will that won’t work if the household has other teens/adults in it. For the parts that do work… I believe you’re supposed to get the will in the mail. How many in game days has it been since the death, and have you checked the mailbox?

  • The Grim Reaper should have showed up. That was definitively a glitch.
