Random father-daughter rivalry

In the new royalty pack, I made a royal family: mum, dad, son, daughter. They all get along, happy little family. Mum and dad are level 5, son is level 4 and daughter is level 3 in the nobility career.

All of a sudden, for no reason at all that I can think of, daddy dear declares his own lovely daughter as his rival! Now they both can't move up in their careers.

I don't want either of them to leave the career. For some reason, I cant get them to duel about it, and I don't understand the other options to solving their rivalry in this case. I'm also obviously not gonna get them to murder each other. I can't imagine anyone getting any better after that. (Also, mummy dear is pregnant of a third, have some compassion!)

Why is this rivalry thing so random? Shouldn't it have a reason? A cause?

Can this be improved? Or am I missing some obvious solution?

    Since neither is level 10 in the career, is this the Growing Together “workplace rival”? That’s usually solvable by befriending the rival. Are they already friends?

    Yes, they are good friends! I don't know about the workplace rival, I really think it's the royalties rival.

    I only just started playing with the career, but… is the daughter a teen, by any chance? (Adults can’t fight/vampire duel/fill-in-aggressive-blank with teens.)

    Yes she is a teen! Who would make their teenage daughter their rival? 😂 I mean, it could be a good story, but it just isn't what I wanted to do and I don't want them to kill each other.

    I suspect that they can’t duel because she’s a teen. I wonder if having the teen quit the career and rejoin after Dad claims his promotion would clear it. (If you want to try, you could save first and quit without saving if it doesn’t help.)

    Assigning a teenage daughter as a noble rival seems like a 😒 thing for the game to do. Definitely not the story you were trying to tell there!
