You can do extra credit with a B or an A.
It seems the fear is canceled if your grade reaches C.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@richvh I can't find a fear of failing grades in any guide. There's only classes, test, after-school activities and general failure, which one is it you mean and what are the consequences ? Are you having issues getting the grades up ? Otherwise if a C solves it, you can just go that way ?
(I usually turn wants/fears off myself) - richvh2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
It's "Fear of Failing Classes". Looks like I failed to read thoroughly. You have to ask the teacher for extra credit work after finishing the day's homework.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@richvh Can you get it if you ask ? (aka this isn't a bug ?)

I plan on finding out this evening.
Edit: I had to wait until the end of the school day for the fear to trigger, and then do the homework at school, but then I was able to ask Rita Coombes for extra credit.
The next day the fear didn't trigger at the end of the day so I sent my teen Sim home. It triggered while she was doing her homework, but while Rita became a stayover house guest while my teen Sim was doing homework., I was not able to ask her for extra credit after finishing homework.
I think it may be bugged, despite that, unless you can't get the fear without High School Years, and I suspect the Fear is tied to the Troublemaker Scenario (where the teen sim starts with an F), which is available to players without High School Years. Also, if you can get the fear as a child (by slacking off at school or making friends at school enough times in a row to get a D) it's bugged, as there is no way to ask a teacher for extra credit work.
- @richvh Can you ask for extra credit during the school day, before doing homework? And then have the extra credit available after completing homework as long as it's the same day you requested it?

No. You can't ask for extra credit while the fear isn't active, and the very earliest I've seen this fear trigger was just before the end of afternoon class, on the first day of school.. That day I stayed at school to do homework and checked Rita after completing it, and found for the so far only time the option to ask for extra credit. I have tried checking Rita earlier in the day, and the option isn't there. I have tried clearing the Must Pay Attention stressed moodlet faster, and the fear doesn't trigger sooner. I have checked Rita with fear active and homework complete at home while she was a stay over guest (she was a random stay over guest) and the option wasn't there. I have not tried inviting Rita over while the fear is active, or traveling with Rita to the school while the fear is active.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@richvh I think the fear is tied to HSY. You can't get it without the pack but I'm not sure.
Also I wouldn't expect the option to be available unless at school. - richvh2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
I think you're right. I tried a new game of Troublemaker Scenario with High School Years disabled, and neither the fear nor the Must Pay Attention tense moodlet showed up the first day. When you have a D or F and join High School, you get the moodlet when you arrive at school, and lose it about lunch time.
Just tried another new try at the scenario (with HSY enabled) and couldn't ask Rita for extra credit with the fear in the lady's room. I suspect both you and the teacher need to be in the classroom to get the option.

@richvh Yeah, doesn't sound like a bug. Bit restrictive maybe but I don't think there's a bug here.
I'm moving this to game issues but please make a new report if you have troubles getting rid of the fear after asking for the extra credit work.

The fear clears as soon as you start the extra credit. You don't need to even start homework before asking for extra credit, but do need the fear, which usually triggers well after the end of afternoon class, when ordinarily the teen would have already gone home or to extracurricular activities. If the timing of the fear triggering could be tweaked to consistently trigger during afternoon class I think it would be much better.
A couple more issues I've noticed that you might want to split off:
1) You don't lose grade progress when you join, even if you skip both classes and all tasks. Sending alone can cause you to lose grade progress if you choose to Make Friends or Slack Off during the school day.
2) Grade progress gain is slower when you Join than when you Send Alone, and seems to only increase from completing tasks at school. Doing homework (regular, extra credit or make up homework) does not seem to affect progress at all. My teen took 4 days to get promoted from F to D Joining every day. In my opinion there should be an effect on progress at the beginning of the school day depending on how much homework was completed.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@richvh Just make a new thread per game bug. You can also use the feedback forum. The second one sounds more like feedback to me.
