@MorganIsTrash_ Usually you have more than one save file in the saves folder. You could try to open the one of which you definitely know your Sim was still alive and rename that one to a totally new save. In that way you will not mix up or override other files.

When something like that happens (a dying sim) to me I just quit the game without saving thus going back to an earlier stage of the game and excepting the loss in progress I made.
