@graceymanors Sorry for your troubles. You said that you removed the Mods folder, which is good for troubleshooting this issue. Since your Mods folder has no mods in it now, please also try the following:
Delete the localthumbnailcache.package file in your 'The Sims 4' folder and restart the game.
Then run a game repair [ Open Origin, click 'Game Library' then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game ]. After that, please see if the issue has stopped.
Can I also ask... What type of lots are these that are not placing well? Are they lots that came with the game (EA designed lots) or lots that you downloaded from the gallery?
@graceymanors Did you do the repair and removal of the cache file along with the other instructions in the order I recommended yet? Also, it would probably be good to mention that right before Get Famous was released there was a huge patch that did break a lot of mods & cc. Since you noticed this issue around that time it's possible that this is part of your issue. Just removing the mods folder may not have been enough to fully remove any effects, which is why I also recommended removing that particular cache file and then running the game repair. It may also be possible that these particular lots from the gallery became broken with the patch also, (there may be content in them that was effected). But if you remove that cache file and run the repair in the manner I mentioned in my other post that is an initial troubleshooting step.
@graceymanors Get famous was not the part that broke a lot of Mods, it was the patch right before Get Famous was released. So both were released around the same time. Sorry if I was unclear, but that's what I meant.
Can you please try placing those lots in a new, fresh game save and see if the issue is present then?
Could you give me the names of the gallery items your are having issues with placing and the specific lots you are having issues with placing them in? This way I could try downloading them from the gallery test in my game.
Can I also clarify that you no longer have any mods or cc in the game, correct?
@graceymanors Thank you for the additional information! I have just placed both from the 'world' and from within each lot each of these two gallery builds/lots in my game (please see screenshot of them in place). I had no issues.
Did purchase any game packs, etc., or add more content to your game over this time period? Is it possible that your game (or your computer itself) has become more taxed - more overloaded or stressed to it's capacity, in these last several months, and perhaps things like loading, placing and processing in this manner a larger build may cause a bit of an overload and freeze up your game &/or your computer?
If you suspect this may be the case you could try doing some things to relieve some of the load on your computer, since Sims is a huge game, and do things like free up as much ram as possible, clean up and compress the computer files, off-load certain large files to an external drive, turn off as many programs as possible on your computer while playing Sims, etc.
Tweak relevant settings in Origin and in your game to reduce load/stress on the system (ie: reduce the screen resolution, graphics and similar settings; play in windowed mode, turn off Origin in-game, play in 'off-line mode', etc.) You can also reduce the number of items stored in your game library, as these do live, along with your game saves that get larger and larger the more you content you have saved in your games, in your The Sims 4 tray. Please refer to some tips here:
@graceymanorsDeleting the tray folder deletes all households, rooms and lots in your Library - which I'm sure you don't want to do. The tray contains your households and many items you will not want removed form your game. I recommend that you put it back and maybe just remove some things from the library - maybe some builds stored form the gallery and things like that.
According to the spec sheet you attached at the beginning of this thread the it does not appear the computer is the issue (but a fellow helper pointed out that you are one Windows 10 build behind and Windows Defender is failing to update, so that would be good to address.)
Honestly I had literally nothing in my tray except for these three particular lots, which I had Favorited also, which is why I was fine with deleting it.I'm a minimal player, in which I don't save rooms, households or lots often unless I really really like them, I don't even keep copy of my sims.😃
The computer just updated this morning. And updated a few weeks ago, says the updates gone through? I'm a little confused lol.
@graceymanors That's awesome! I'm so glad to hear that! Well, if your computer just updated it should have taken care of the update mentioned. If you want to make sure just go into Windows Defender and make sure it is updated.
I went in and checked for updates and the updates it updated to is downloading again? Although under "installed" updates, it shows it as installed?
Edit: Windows defender? Isn't that the virus protection? I have that disabled as I have a purchased virus protection I use.I don't see anyway to update windows defender itself.
@graceymanors That makes sense since you don't use the Windows Defender. If the downloader keeps prompting to install updates it may not be completing the updates. It can be a fidgety process, and I am not remembering all of the tricks I used to use to force and track these things since I'm on Mac only now. If you cannot get it to complete you can try letting us know. Other helpers may be able to advise, though I'm not sure this would be supported here since it is the Sims forum, but I could check if you end up needing guidance on it.
