Re: No color choices in The Sims 4

@JonTheVGN3rd  I've moved your post to the General Discussion section, since this is more feedback than a technical issue.

I'm totally biased, but I also think Sims 4 would be better with Create a Style and the color wheel.  It was, and still is, a great feature of TS3.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you for that. And yeah, this would've been a great feature for TS4 yet it was omitted for IDK what reason. There shouldn't be a reason to be given limited color choices for clothes, hairstyle and skins (even eye colors as well). I'm surprised no one noticed this issue.

@JonTheVGN3rd, Oh trust me; people have noticed! 🤨😇  They've only been talking about it for the past 5 years! 😃

The reason they didn't include the Create-A-STyle (CASt) color/pattern wheel was because depending on the amount of colors or patterns you have saved on it, it would make the game slower and slower, at least anytime you opened CAS, or Buy/Build Mode.  I collected so many (I was addicted!😳 ) It would take at least 20 min for CAS, Buy, or Build Mode to open!!! 😞😢  It was my absolute favorite thing in TS3, but TS3 ran soooo slow (often stopping altogether ) that TS3 is my least favorite version of the Sims.  But the amount of colors/patterns I had in CASt wasn't the only thing slowing the game down.  The open world slowed it down the most.  😞

The hair color picker was a bit different than the CASt wheel in that there were no patterns to worry about, just main color, roots, tips, and highlights. 🥳

I think overall, they kept the amount of colors low in TS4 so that more computers could run it.  I do wish there were some sort of consistency with the color choices.  Sometime the shirt I want for my Sim doesn't come in the color I want.  The shrit next to it does, but I don't like the shape of that one on my Sim.☹️  It is also really difficult to match outfits and room décor , and for an OCD person like me, this is aggravating.  But it is still far less aggravating than a game that would stop running! 🤨

I would love to have CASt back, but I still don't want to wait 20, 30, or 40 minutes for it each time! 😇

  • @PugLove888 Glad to see others think that way. Also, I'm not sure what your PC specs are but I had no issues with color picker in TS3, and it ran pretty well, even though I don't have a pretty beefy PC. Still, it shouldn't be hard to re-introduce the option to pick colors for ourselves instead of giving us limited color choices. It can't be that difficult to implement it, at least in my opinion.

@JonTheVGN3rd, I don't play on the same computer I did back with TS3.  A lot of people say computers can better handle TS3 now then they could when it was the most current game, but I don't know how much better! 🤔

The color picker for hair also wasn't what caused the problems.  It was the CASt color/pattern wheel, that while similar to the color picker for hair and the like, was much more complex because it introduced the ability to have unlimited amounts of patterns in addition to all the colors.🙂  If you saved a bunch of patterns in more than one color (as I usually did) the amount of swatches you would have saved would grow exponentially! 🤨 This wouldn't be a problem if you just had only something like 50 patterns in just 2 or 3 colors.  But if you had something like 500 patterns in at least 10 different colors, you can see how this would quickly snowball , eventually causing problems.😞  And since I found the gameplay in TS3 to be boring compared to TS2, I spent a lot of time with my favorite feature of TS3 , which was Create A STyle!  I was addicted to it, but once we got Pets, Seasons, and Generations, I did lay off of it more, since the gameplay was finally better.  But by then adding on all the packs my game really slowed down, so just when gameplay got interesting, the game was extremely difficult to play.  I did not have these problems with either TS2 or TS4! :eahigh_file:

But I think you hit on a key for making the TS4 system work better and that is to let us choose our colors from a limited amount of colors. :ealight_bulk:😇❤️ (My heart hates that the choices would have to be limited, but my brain knows its for the best!).  Take the Spa Day pack.  A lot of items I love from that pack, but most of the colors are all muted colors, which I like to a point , but I want them in jewel tones and pastels as well!  And sometimes the colors don't make sense and will have 2 colors that are almost identical but will be missing some basic and popular color choices.  I think there should always be black, white, a medium gray , brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink and turquoise.  (But more shades of brown for wood items!).  I would prefer a few more color options to these, but this is my bare minimum.  Ideally there should be light, med, and dark versions of every color except black and white.

As for the ease of implementing such a change, I've heard from people I know who are much more tech savvy than I am  that sometimes a seemingly simple solution, is way more difficult than it seems to most people! 🤨  One example of this is implementing toggles on a lot of features.  Another example is providing different heights for our Sims so we can have short, medium, and tall Sims.  ( I would love this myself, but apparently it isn't an easy thing to do and have it work correctly in a game like the Sims!) ☹️

But despite all of that, I would really love more color options in the Sims 4, and was glad when they gave us a few more for some items this Summer!  And perhaps if they ever make a Sims 5, they will have found a better way than the Sims 4 for picking colors, even if it isn't as extensive as it was for Sims 3! 🤞
