Re: Save crashes when sims travel

@nicolemuhangi101  Do you use mods or custom content, and if so, does the game crash without any of it?  Please test if you haven't already: move the Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbcache.package.

If that doesn't help, or you don't use mods or cc, is there any pattern at all to the crashing?  For example, does it happen when you send your sims traveling, or load a certain lot?

@nicolemuhangi101  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

The idea here is that you might need to rebuild your user folder.  But the first step is confirming the game runs properly in the new folder with nothing added to it.

If you get another crash or freeze, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, or when you tried to launch it and it didn't work, specifically while using the clean folder.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • @puzzlezaddict okay and what do i do now its running fine i found in my other game when they travelled is when the game actually had a point of crash i could determine. and in this new safe file he travels just fine so what now

@nicolemuhangi101  Copy your previous save, but nothing else yet, to the new folder.  Have your sim travel again and see how it works.  Try a few different locations—it's possible the world or lot your sim was traveling to is corrupt, as opposed to travel being broken in general.  The idea here is to narrow it down as much as possible, so if for example traveling to one lot in world A doesn't work, try a different lot in a different neighborhood in world A as well as a lot in world B.

  • Ok here is my predicament: travelling and loading into household worlds works, in other games,i tested on a tester game file i created a while ago, and that file was fine and working people were travelling. however, not the same luck on that one main game file i was having issues with and was actively playing and reporting on.

  • @puzzlezaddict so this game file seems corrupted? because it has been endlessly idly loading for about 8 mins just to get into a household and im still not. My laptop is pretty fast and takes 30 secs to load in so this is strange. sorry for the flood of messages.

Hey @nicolemuhangi101 ! It caught my eye that you're having CC issues on top of this save issue. Can we step you back to a clean folder and take this slowly to get you working again?

For that, do *only* these steps to start, then let me know how that's gone:

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and exit
    3. Copy only the save file that you normally play, not one that previously worked or a test save, into the new Saves folder the game has now made.
    4. Launch SIms 4.
    5. From the main menu, navigate to Load and follow these steps: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/  Take a screenshot showing the results.
    6. Test your save.
    7. Upload your screenshot and tell me if the save worked, and if not, exactly what parts didn't work.

We'll sort out the CC after we get you a working save.
