I have to agree with @Sketch793 . I have never found any use for it other than selling the produce to help with the household finances. Not worth much, but every little bit helps when you're playing broke sims.

Thanks for your answers. I would have never thought the plant could be helpful against bugs. The user seems to think it must be a bug because of this description:
Its intimidating look is much less of a concern to Sims than to the wandering insect.
