Re: Still no mermaid tails

@LivyLoo11, do you by any chance use Mods or Custom Content (CC)? 🤔  If you do, that could be what's causing your trouble.

If you have or have used Mods or CC please do all of the following:

1) Move your Mods folder to your Desktop

2) Delete the localthumbcache.package file in the Game Folder

3) Repair your game in Origin by logging into Origin and go to your Library.  Right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the option to "Repair Game".  Wait until Origin fixes all of your packs and not just the base game.

4) Now when you turn on your game it will create a new, empty mods folder.  Check your game to see if the problem is fixed.

5). You can now add your Mods/CC back one at a time checking the game each time to see which one is the culprit. (For people with a lot of mods/CC they often have to do the 50/50 Method). For each item that is outdated, you will have to see if the creator of that item has a new version that is up to date with EA's most recent update/patch.

You might have to do this each time EA update the game with a patch.

It is the responsibility of the Mod/CC creators to update their items when EA updates the game.  It is the responsibility of people who use Mods/CC to make sure the Mods/CC they use are up to date!

It would also be helpful if you could include a picture or pictures of your problem Mermaid! 🤨

Please tell us if this works or not!  If you don't use Mods/CC please inform us so we can continue to troubleshoot what is going on in your game! 🤔

Happy Simming! 🥳

Hi Thank you for your reply,

Unfortunately that didn't work either. I have attached a picture after doing the mod idea.

Think I am just going to have to delete the sim☹️.

@LivyLoo11if you haven't saved your game yet since having your Sim become a Mermaid, you can quit the game without saving and go back to before your Sim became a Mermaid.  You can also eat some Mermadic Kelp again to reverse the Mermaid state.

Sadly, both of these suggestions are just to save your favorite Sim... they won't fix the initial problem that caused it. 😞 So, unless/until we figure out what is going on, just either make Mermaids in CAS or if you use the kelp, use it on Sims you don't care as much about. 😉

I'm conferring with some other helpers to see if they know how to fix the problem that caused this.🤔  I will get back to you!

@LivyLoo11, update to what I said before:

I've checked with some other people who help here and one person suggested going into CAS and  editing her tail from there, but it sound like you already tried that and it wouldn't let you do it. 🤔

Another person wondered if your original Sim had CC, and that maybe that interfered with the transformation process?  Then they suggest using more mermadic kelp (either though another reward, or by finding it in the cave in Sulani, or through a cheat) to convert your Sim back into a regular Sim and then save that copy of that Sim to the Library as a default/backup. Try again to convert her.🙂

Finally, since you don't mind using Mods, maybe MCCC Mod might help?🤔 They think it has a command to fix or regenerate outfits, but they have never used it so they don't know what the exact command is.

I don't use Mods or CC myself (had too many problems with it in TS3 so I stopped using it and have never used it in TS4). But I am surprised that removing your Mods folder , deleting the localthumbcache.package file and repairing you game didn't do anything.🤨 It is difficult to determine what is going on in your game since we don't' know what Mod/CCC is the culprit.  Usually doing the above will fix the problem and then you can go back and add your Mods and CC one by one, checking each time to see when the game starts acting up again, at which point it will be obvious which Mods or CC is causing the problem.  Nobody else at this time seems to have any problems like this (whether they use Mods or not).  🤔 But if I hear of anything that might help I will tell you.  Also, feel free to add any information and update us on if any of the above suggestions work for you! 😇

@LivyLoo11, this bug might be the same as what is going on in your game https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-IL-Mermaid-Tail-invisible-after-eating-kelp-aging-up/td-p/8199657

Take a look at it and if it sounds like your experience, click the "Me Too" button on the first person's post and then add your experience to the end of the thread.

I wasn't aware that this was a bug (I have only made Mermaids either in CAS or through having babies. )  and the problem is made more complex with the addition of mod/CC since we try to rule out Mods/CC as the cause before looking elsewhere.  Hopefully EA will fix this in another patch! 🤞

(I've also received some more suggestions, but this was before we knew there was a bug report on this.  I can mention the other suggestions if you like, but that is up to you.😉  It looks to me like a bug since you tested your Mods/CC already.  🤨

Best of luck and Happy Simming! 🥳

@PugLove888 I also have this problem. No mods, no CC. I have all games except Halloween stuff. Just loaded magic and island in past 2 days, first mermaid I make has no lower half. No options to change scales, can’t see anything in CAS either. Sim ate kelp from exploring the cave. Have not seen ANY mermaids. Sim swims like a mermaid would I suppose....she’s fast...buts she half a sim ☹️
So bummed. I hadn’t played sims in almost 8mo. Finally decided I needed to catch up....and got this.

@Mieyonna04, I see you have added your experience to the Bug Report on this!  Thank you for doing that! 😇

I have yet to use the Mermadic Kelp, so I have never encountered this problem.  All my Mermaids were created as Mermaids in CAS before playing, or else they were born in-game.  I would stick to making Mermaids in CAS and their babies, until they fix this issue with the kelp! 🤨

There are 4 Mermaids hidden in Sulani (there were 3 originally, but they added one more in an update! )  But you wont see them as Mermaids until you can get them to admit that they are a Mermaid.  You need a high enough friendship level for them to admit to being Mermaids, and it might be a bit of a challenge to get them to admit it!

    Spoiler!

Click on this link if you want to find out who the hidden mermaids are and what they look like! https://simscommunity.info/2019/08/30/the-sims-4-island-living-npc-mermaids-no-longer-hidden-in-game/

I loaded that game again today and still no tail....so I went into CAS again and tried removing tattoos as someone suggested on another post I had read.  Nothing happened immediately but as I was about to exit CAS, popped back to regular form and then clicked mermaid form one last time (I’m glad I did check again) still no tail st that moment but I also remembered someone mentioning trying to edit the scales...so I fiddled around and found where the tail options were (I’m assuming that’s the scales I should edit as I didn’t see that option anywhere else).  When I changed the tail, bam.  It showed up.  I can’t tell you if it was the tattoo and then changing of the tail...both or a combo of both and also my order in steps getting there lol.  I was just tickled it was finally there.

So for me...remove tattoo on human form in CAS, click to mermaid form, switch back to human, then back to Mermaid, change the tail.  Tail is functioning in CAS and in game as it should...with proper hydration bar (prior to this it had remained hygiene).  Hope it can work for someone else as well!  Will test it again on a new fam when I make one and let u know if I see it again.  Thank you for the tips!

@Mieyonna04, thank you for reporting your findings! 😇  While this is still a bug, at least there is a workaround!  If you haven't already you might want to add this to the Bug Report you posted on, so that others can use your work around! 🙂  It also might help Crinrict with the bug report on this as well! 😉

    Nicely done! 🙌

    Happy Simming! 🥳

Update to tag @LivyLoo11 , in case this helps them! 🤞
