Re: Why is the microscope so huge?

@jupkmn , oh, pretty much everyone hates that microscope!!! 😓  It is ridiculous in anything but work environment/science lab , or maybe the underground lair on a private lot with a mad scientist type of Sim!  I don't mind it in the Get to Work EP's Science Lab because it makes sense there, but I hate it everywhere else and only have one in all my lots across all my save game files!  And that Sim is a mad scientist and has Aliens for children , so it makes sense for him and his bizarre family!

But with all my other nerdy Sims i have to deny them the microscope because it is ridiculously large! The same with the telescope (though at least there is a somewhat good reason that is so large , as it doubles as a woo hoo spot! 😅)

I have had friends who had small desktop microscopes as kids, and much smaller telescopes! I think they made them this size just to be funny, but the joke gets really old when your genius Sim can't use anything in their apartment or small home! 😥

When we had the community vote in late 2019 that resulted in the Nifty Knitting pack, one of the packs we could vote on was a science/technology pack that would have included a smaller microscope and telescope! 🤨  I really wanted to vote on that, but I wanted to have knitting in the game even more! 💗 But that was my second choice just to have the smaller microscope and telescope!  My hopes is that they give those to us soon!

Oh, I get it. I play since TS1, but just now I decided to be active in the online community, so I actually didn't know there was a poll about this specific stuff. Anyway, thank you for your reply, and I hope someday the development team decide to make a smaller microscope, it doesn't even need to come with a pack 😅

@PugLove888 A kit seems like a great way to give us all these little things that players want. Like a science/ tech kit that includes a smaller microscope and telescope. They could give us a music kit with more instruments and ability to create bands, maybe another jukebox. I wanted a kit with more animals but we just got that with cottage living. Another thing I want back in the sims is a pool table. They could utilize kits for so many things but they don't.

Anyway I kind of went off on a tangent. I was thinking of building a grand multi-story library that includes some of those bigger skill building machines like the microscope, telescope, the analyzer thing from the doctor career, etc, even a junior science lab for the kids, along with the regular things a library has. And add the lot traits that help you learn. That way my sims don't need to own any of they they can just go to the library to skill build.

@jupkmn , yes, I've been playing since The Sims 1 as well! 💗 They had a small telescope in that game that was perfect.  In Sims 2 they did have a slightly bigger one, but i think they also had one like in TS1 too.  But the bigger one was still pretty small in comparison to the one in TS4.  😅

I don't remember any microscopes in any of the other versions of the game, but maybe they had some.  🤔

@AppleBlossom3 , I think all of your ideas are good ideas for Kits!😃   In fact I have wondered if they would make a music Kit with the ability to create bands, and at least a drum set, maybe a saxophone , bass (orchestral type) or trumpets, etc. And a lot of people want the pool table!

They might still do some of these ideas for kits... we have just had several kits already just in the first half of the year, which is a bit much.  They might be spreading them out more for the future.  But I don't really know.

@AppleBlossom3 Love the idea! A science kit would be really cool. And for the music stuff, to be honest, I want it to be a full pack with lots and lots of instruments haha.

@PugLove888 Yes! I remember the TS1 and TS2 telescopes, it was so smaller and more realistic 😅

There has always been some sort of microscope and/or telescope in the game. I missed your the telescope used to fit perfectly on the patio and look like one you'd have in your house, still my Sims could go out to their patio and stargaze, maybe get abducted by aliens. Now I have to make sure the lot is big enough to put one in their yard that's way too easy to spot.

My random guess is that it was for the animations. If the item is huge it controls the area where it happens (or even eliminates the Sims animation in favor of a rotating telescope animation in the case of the backboard observatory).

  • My sims have the small telescope on their patio…I don’t remember if it’s base game or not though. It should be under knowledge or maybe outdoor activities…I usually search for it. Ooh one also came with Werewolves as well.
