Sim can't stop carrying cat

Never had this issue before, my Sim will pick up her cat and then just... refuse to put it down, as shown in the screenshot, she's not holding the cat the normal way either. She keeps gesturing that there's something blocking her path. She will still do the things I tell her, but after complaining for a good amount of time and nothing makes the cat leave her hand. 

When I restart my game she does release the cat from her eternal grip, but within minutes she has the cat back in her arms and can't seem to put the cat down. 

Is this a known bug, is there something I can do other than repeatedly restarting my game whenever she picks up the cat?
