Sim Does Not Show Up IN-GAME

As described in the title, my Sim does not show up at all in-game.

To preface, I created this Sim about a year ago and had actively played with it for a few months. After redownloading TS4 and returning to my save today, this Sim had mysteriously vanished. I had an older copy of the Sim saved to the Gallery, so I attempted to move it back into my world. However, in CAS, the name would always disappear, despite restarting my game a few times and using an older instance of the Sim saved to my gallery. When merging households with this Sim and an existing Sim in the game, its name would be changed to that of the existing Sim's. After trying to load the household, the Sim would vanish both in-game and from CAS. I've tried this with mods disabled, mods enabled, certain mods removed, etc., to no avail.

When using the Sims 4 Mod Manager game file scan feature, this Sim is shown as present in my active household, but is missing in-game. It doesn't show up in the relationships tab for any of my other Sims in-game, and I have tried this across a few different game saves now (i.e., live mode treats this Sim as if it does not exist.) When in live mode with JUST this Sim in the household, the icon in the lefthand corner is completely missing. I can't even copy its appearance to a new Sim with MCC because it vanishes from the save after initially moving it into a lot.

Any ideas on what could be going on here? I have not encountered this issue with any of my other Sims. Apologies if this is worded confusingly. Thank you.

  • Sounds like the Sim is either corrupt or you still have some mods left over in your game.

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Repair the game
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry.
    • Start a new save game.
    • Place the Sim.
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

Okay, after having started fresh with a new Sims 4 folder, it seems like there are no issues with this Sim anymore, leading to believe there is STILL a mod issue. As I said earlier, I had already taken out the Mods folder and was still running into difficulties with this Sim. Could it have been in one of the other folders? Thank you

Start to copying back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)- Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.
