sims 4 discover university new term enrollment

Help! 

I keep trying to enroll both my sims for a new term and move them to the other dorms (just wanted to have some realism to the game) but every time I do this the classes get scheduled fine but when moving the game keeps separating my sims so they're like 2 households. I want to play both in the same dorm like I did for the 1st term but the game won't even let me merge them to the same household due to "needing to be enrolled to live in the dorm" except they are enrolled. Hope this makes sense.
