Sims created via story mode job/traits missing

I've created Sims using the story mode to give them specific jobs & traits but when I go play them their jobs & traits are missing. I've exited the game & restarted it but they are still gone. I usually create them & then finish building their homes, is that what is causing this issue? It's happened several times to me & is very frustrating. I do not use any mods but I do have CC. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    I build the shell of the house & then create the family & go back into build mode.

    seems there's an ancient report for this.

    To be sure when you say you build first, you haven't placed the Sim or did you place them and just went into build mode ?
