Skin details on mermaid

Is there a way to make skin details on the upper body possible on a mermaid? The upper body on a mermaid can be painted with tattoos but upper body skin details simply disappear when changing into a mermaid.

Can skin details be added to mermaids, or is there a way to implement this myself without downloading a mod?
