Stair Railings

Hi,

I’d like to know if removing one side of a stair railing is a feature that’s going to be added at some point. As a player focused on the build mode of the game I find this a constant annoyance and I am often stuck with changing design plans. I’ve attached a picture showing when double railings wouldn’t make sense. The stairs are placed next to a wall with railings sticking out of a half wall. It looks bizarre to say the least. But being the creative person I am I’ll be covering it up with a plant. By giving players the choice of double or single railings, I think it will allow builder oriented players especially to be able to have more creative freedom with their builds and less frustration of dealing with strange things like railings overlapping fences and coming out of half walls and such.
Looking forward to progress,

A Sims enthusiast.

  • @NessieLee , I agree with you, as this is a problem that I've had many times! 😞

I will tag one of the other Champions @SheriGR as she is an excellent builder and might have some tips for you. (And if she doesn't, she will certainly commiserate with us on the inability to only have both railings on no railings! 😅 )

If you can use Mods/CC and don't mind doing so, there might be a Mod out there that could possibly fix this problem.  I don't use Mods so I don't know if there is one that addresses this problem , but it wouldn't surprise me if there was!

I don't work for EA so I have no idea if this is planning on being added or not.

  • Thanks for the tag, @PugLove888@NessieLee, I agree with you 100% that the way stair rails behave against a wall is odd, and it would be great to have the choice of a (right or left) single rail if it's looking odd on the particular staircase (especially since in functional reality rails are of no use to a Sim in this game anyway). Also, I would love to see adjustments to the appearance of the rails when they overlap a wall. If the rail on the wall showed on the wall section both where it has no wall at the top of the wall section as you pictured, as it would look like an open gap otherwise (an oddity to the game function I won't go into, to my understanding) and on the section where the wall is when the staircase is against a wall, that would be awesome! In other words, make the rail moved inward slightly visually so it clears the wall and shows all the way down the staircase on the wall side.

Anyway, I'm giving your suggestion an 'XP' and 'Me Too'! 🙌

Edit... I happened to be checking something today on a previous build I made and the goofy stair railings caught my attention...

Literally inside the window and odd in several ways:

Makes zero sense that rails touch walls, if there is a wall on one side of the stairs, there shouldnt be rails there

I agree with this. I stopped using stair rails altogether because of this. Now I just have stairs with no rails. My sims better be careful not to trip lol
