Vegetarian food (Update 09/26/2023)

"Gelatin Rainbow Cake isn’t Vegetarian?! We’ve updated a lot of recipes that weren’t properly flagged as Vegetarian-Safe - and some that shouldn’t have been flagged in the first place."

Somebody tell them that GELATIN cannot be vegetarian. It's not even funny.

Can't be bothered to check other food though.

@rostsit , while you are right, in that actual gelatine is made from animals, there are some gelatine-like substances that are made from plants, such as gummy candies made from fruit pectin.
But yes, I think they got mixed up! 😓

I know about pectin and other substitutes. But if it clearly says gelatin - it's gelatin, period.

@rostsit , Yes I know that.🙂  I was just mentioning it because many people are not aware of gelatine being made from animals, and they may have seen some vegan jellies and thought they were the same as the ones made from actual gelatine.  I'm sorry I didn't communicate that clearly.☹️ I was just trying to say that I think they got mixed up between the pectin jellies and the gelatine jellies.

Honestly, this whole thing could be avoided if they simply created new vegetarian-friendly variant, like Pectin Rainbow Cake, or Agar Agar Rainbow Cake, or something similar and left the Gelatin variant untouched as non-vegetarian. Just my two cents.

  • I'm fairly sure that what they did was change it from vegetarian to not? But the patch notes are echoing a line from Scott Pilgrim where a Vegan didn't know that chicken wasn't vegan, and uses phrasing like that, expressing surprise.

@peno11 , yes since we have both tofu dogs and meat hot dogs as well as other foods with both a regular and a vegan option, it would have been nice to have them do the same on the foods that were traditionally gelatine based as well!

@luthienrising Ah!  I did not get the reference, so I just thought they had a mix up. 😅 Thank you for that clarification! 😇

I do think it is best they label gelatine properly, but that makes me rather surprised that they took away a vegetarian option that our Sims previously had!  The Vegetarian Sims have a limited menu as it is, so I hate to see an option be taken away without a replacement. 😔
