I don't buy all the packs, not just because I don't have the money or the specs, but because I don't think I need all of it.
While pets are cute, I found them quite annoying in TS2 and ever since I just don't think I am going for it. I probably also won't get Cottage Living and I definitely will not get Bust the Dust. I'm not much into vampire, werewolves and that kind of stuff, but I'm thinking whether I should give them a shot, once I have the other packs that are on my wish list.
For the ones I have, I noticed I appreciate different things about each pack that I wouldn't want to miss - even if I don't use the gameplay much or become annoyed at how limited/bugged it is (e.g. Get Famous).
I haven't used the careers or stores from Get To Work very often. Owning a store was fun, but then I rotate households a lot and they offer too little to just visit for fun. The careers aren't too interesting to me either, and I didn't like those lots at all (not really helpful for an efficient gameplay). But mostly, lot changes require loading screens, and can take up a lot of time, so it doesn't seem really feasible to me. BUT I do enjoy many of the BB items and some CAS so I wouldn't want to miss it. And I probably just need to test out the rest of the gameplay a bit more.
Dine Out is pretty similar for that, I've managed restaurants once or twice and I barely use them to travel to. But I don't want to play without the BB items. Those brick walls have been used in so many of my builds, it's totally worth it.
I'm not sure I really needed the Country Kitchen or Plants kit, because I really don't use them much. But I can live with that.
