Will the Ignore Button Ever Return to Chance Cards? It Should!

I also posted about this on the Sims Forums here.

Long story short, one of the biggest things I've always disliked about TS4 was the removal of the ignore button that used to be on chance cards in TS2. For those who don't know, the ignore button's function was basically to close the chance card without any consequence to your Sim, be it positive or negative. This button used to be my saving grace in TS2, because I'm just a boring scaredy cat who doesn't like taking risks. And then that wonderful button was removed in TS4. Now I save throughout a Sim's workday out of fear of a bad chance card so I can reload the game if I get one. It can be especially grating when you're at higher career levels where you only work three days a week. One bad chance card could flush an entire week's worth of work down the drain!

Others have pointed out that they can be annoying when they pop up while doing other tasks as well, because you have to read through it and it absolutely will not close until you make a choice. You could be taking care of a toddler or multiple children at once when a chance card pops up and interrupts you.

And honestly, a lot of the chance cards are just plain mean-spirited. For example, that infamous school chance card where your kid makes a mistake on their test and they have the option to either turn it in or confess the mistake. If you pick the option to confess the mistake, the teacher will either accept it, or force the child to do it over during recess and make them angry in the process. The option to turn it in, however, is always wrong, and the teacher singles the poor kid out and gives them extra homework! Some chance cards even outright insult the player for trying to pick the "safe" option. Not cool! Some simmers have also pointed out that often, neither option suits their Sim's personality. There also isn't much variety, and they can be really repetitive. It's very possible to get a chance card one day and have the exact same one pop up the very next day.

In conclusion, if I could change ONE thing about TS4, this is what I would change. When it boils down to it, the ignore button is just a button. Simmers who like taking risks will still have the option to do so, and those who don't will have the option to close the chance cards. It's a win-win, and absolutely nothing of value would be lost by bringing back the ignore button. Please consider it, EA!

I agree!  You give 2 excellent reasons for having the "ignore" button:

1.) sometimes we don't want to gamble

2.) sometimes we are busy with other Sims and these cards often pop up an very inconvenient times, and I don't feel like trying to figure out the right answer when I'm in the middle of taking care of the Sims that are currently at home!

I hope they bring it back, if not for The Sims 4 , then at least for TS5! 😇

Do remember that pushing 0 (zero) pauses the gameplay and allow you plenty of time to read a message and to queue up interactions for your Sims.

Very handy when playing with a full house which I do most of the time.

In most cases one of the options in a "chance card" is a "safe choice" that you quickly learn such as the tired kid in school should he hide or keep running. Choosing the latter will always be the safe option at best a performance gain at worst no gain.

As for the angry kid send him to the shower or bath tub and that is the end of that. If the sim has an active trait sending him to play on the Jungle Gym/Monkey bars also works while building motion skill. For creative sims have him/her draw which will build skill and create happiness.

For adults where there can be more of a gamble in one of the options notice the mood the sim was in when he/she left for work. Every career has a favored mood and if the sim was in that mood the chances in a gamble are much higher. Never ever gamble if the sim left angry.

This is just ment as a pointer on how to best handle how it currently works. Not if there should be a possibility to ignore the prompt or not.

@jpkarlsen, yes!  I use the "0" key all the time. ❤️ However, If I have a plan of what I need to do and a message box pops up demanding my attention, when I finish dealing with the chance card, I often find myself forgetting on what I planned to do.😞  Once I'm on a roll, I better never get off, or I might never be able to get on it again!  It's a problem with ADHD and ADD.🤒  I'm glad everyone doesn't have this much difficulty, though!  You give some very good suggestions! 😇

  • You could always silence the phone? Just click the speaker at the top of the phone, next to where the background option button is! 🙂 Happy simming!

Since the phone are not involved that will not help.
