[WORKAROUND] Post Processing effects in-game and depth of field opinion

I'm on PC Windows 10
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
Graphics driver - up to date 02.03.2020

Card added manually to the database and recognized by the game.

Part of Config file from the TS4 folder.

=== Graphics device info ===
Number: 0
Name (driver): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
Name (database): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super (Turing) [Found: 1, Supported: 1]
Vendor: NVIDIA
Chipset: Vendor: 10de, Device: 1e84, Board: 40081458, Chipset: 00a1
Driver: nvldumdx.dll, Version: 26.21.14.4250, GUID: D7B71E3E-5DC4-11CF-7267-06601BC2D735
Driver version: 4250

Game options: Set to maximum by default

I have this horrible Distance Blur Issue.

It is like it has looked before I had added Shimrod mod "No distance blur". The mod helped a bit but it is still a long way from the quality of the image I had on the old computer with Nvidia GTX660 card. I didn't expect such problems when I was buying this graphic card.

  • Seeing @kreatora post, having the same GPU as he has I got curious.

So I tested a bit myself.
(i7 6700k, Asus Strix RTX 2070 Super OC, ASUS Z170-A)

After some testing with driver settings I found that the in game post-processing made the difference.

    Whit post-processing:

    Whit out post-processing:

While I am sure that the post-processing should give a depth of field effect, it blurs the background way to much. It is also visible on objects nearby, rendering them very diffuse.
I can of course not say it this effects all GPUs and all drivers, but @puzzlezaddict did some testing on AMD cards as well.

    Hello.

Just to make sure it's clear - many modern games have a depth-of-field blur effect.  You have the ability to turn it off in Sims 4 though, if you don't like it (through the Post Processing Effects option, as previously mentioned).

That said, if the blur is not being applied properly (as in, if it's blurring all objects of varying distances, or it's not behaving consistently, etc.), it may be a bug, which can be reported in the Bug Reports section.

This thread can be used for general feedback on the blur effect in the game (whether you like it or don't like it, whether you think it's too blurry or not blurry enough, etc).

    Thank you 🙂 .

What about PlayStation 4 players? 🥺

We don't have turn off Post Processing Effects option. 🙁

Can we get an option to get rid of depth-of-field blur effect?

    Pretty please. 🥺

I don't like that effect in any game, it feels as if my eyesight was actually blurring. That blurr hides the beauty of The Sims 4 environments.

Jogging first person camera view default height (Sims must have a terrible eyesight to have these houses so blurred!):

Jogging first person view after me manually looking up a little (I would like to have this clarity all the time.):

    *Edit*

    One more example.

When I look down at a park, background buildings are crisp:

When I look up to look at these buildings, blurred!:

Really sad it works like that and that we can't turn it off.
