Adopted or Genetic child?

Okay the title maybe a bit confusing but I'll explain:

Meet Aditya Savalani (left) and Matthew Waters (right). Both are Townies which I now play, and both have their own little stories about how they got where they are.

So before I picked up Aditya, he had been working as a Postal Worker around town with no family apart from himself. Since he was a YA then and quite handsome for a townie, I decided to keep him around and have him bunk with Miko Ojo in San Myshuno. This was before I actually played him though so he continued to age until they just became Adults in which I finally started playing him. I decided that Aditya would become a homebody and make his money painting and occasionally some programming work. He came with the City Native aspiration and so this gave him lots of time to work on it (especially the mastering Singing part which moving him in with Miko was also a good idea; Akira and Darling I moved out before then). Interestingly enough this free time allowed him to meet Matthew Waters, his future husband, but when he first met him he was a teen, so I had to wait even longer until he grew up.

Matthew came from a family that consisted of his single mother Kristyn and his younger sister Maliyah. I monitored his age closely and when he just reached YA, I moved him with Miko as well. The romance started a bit rocky between them but it began to soon blossom well, and when Aditya became an Adult, the best present he ever had was their Heat of the Moment Marriage at the arch at the Romance Festival. Unlike Aditya, Matthew wanted to be a Bestselling Author, and what better to help him achieve that then entering him into the Writer career, which also made his own mother his Co-Worker. Time went by further and his mother soon retired, then died, leaving Maliyah as his only family. I decided sometime ago this won't do and created a son for her, Kenya Waters, Matthew's only nephew. Bad news is Kenya did not have the best genes and he had terrible traits to boot when he became a YA (plus his household became bugged) and so preceded to send Kenya to live in a cursed apartment and his only nephew died by eating bad pufferfish nigiri, to which I ceremoniously transferred the family money, a good sum of 30,000 to Matthew. >:)

But the actual reason for this title concerns what happens next with this couple. Now that Miko has found a man to start a family with, the appt they all used to live in together is cramped and it was time for the couple to move out. I decided they shouldn't move far away and took the opportunity to move to the Penthouse in the Fashion District, and they being the only two living there. Seeing as Aditya is a middle-aged homebody and Matthew is the YA breadwinner, I was thinking it was time for them to start a family as well. Seeing as they're both men, usually it wouldn't be possible for them to birth a child, but this is the Sims still so that question is irrelevant to me. What is relevant is if: should they have an adopted child or one genetically created through CAS by me?

Seeing as both are the only living members of their family, I'd like to save their genetics to a prospective child, but there are some issues: 1) I feel that I should not ever make them a toddler, because I I don't want the hassle of it in this household, and 2) both of their traits are pretty bad; Aditya is Clumsy, Hot-Headed, but Outgoing, and Matthew is a Lazy Slob who loves Music. It's not that their traits would necessarily be bad with genetics in Sims, but rather would make for a mess if I gave them a toddler from their own genes.

The other option is of course adopting, which would be far easier for me, but then the child wouldn't have their genetics which defeats the point of me wanting to save their genetics to start a family with the household. So could fellow simmers here help me with suggestions on what should be best for these two who want to start a family but still carry on their genes? I'm only going to give them one child for now, though.

  • Definitely do genetics. You can always edit the traits or looks if you do not like something, yet still being the biological child of your Sims. Not to be rude to the kids in the orphanage, but a good chunk of them are not exactly the best good looking, and you never know if the qualities they have are much worse than what you'll get. I definitely recommend getting the MCC Mod when it comes to playing with LGBT couples. One of the features of this amazingly packed mod is the ability to enable Woohoo for Baby for same sex couples, whether male or females, and not just for heterosexual couples.
  • I say if you want to save their genetics, give them a child in CAS. If you want a plausible explanation, say for a storyline, you could say they used a surrogate or something of the sort, to carry on their genes. I recently made a family of two mothers and gave them a bunch of genetic kids through CAS, and I love how gorgeous they turned out to be.
  • I have all my gay couples adopt, I've had really good luck with their adopted children's genetics, they have all been attractive.

You can do this without MCCC. I tend to have genetic with my male/female couples and let my same-sex couples adopt. I did have a family once where I had a trans-female and her wife have genetic children to preserve genes, but my game erased them (still mad about that and losing that family AND two of my favorite lots ever!).
  • You could also have a 'surrogate' mother situation. Though it would require one of the two gents to woo-hoo with a female sim, get her pregnant and after the baby is born move the baby into the fathers household.

You could also just give one of them the ability to become pregnant by changing them via "Change Sim" as you can see here:

  • Recently I've gotten strong genetics of only one parent when I tried playing around with genetics, but I decided to see what a child of theirs might look like as a child (since I want to skip the toddler stage for this household)

So I'm more leaning to a child created through genetics in CAS, the thing is how should I go about it? I don't want a pregnancy to happen for any one of them at this time, plus I want to avoid the toddler stage for them and go straight to child stage. So any creative ways I can create for a reason why a child magically shows up at their door belonging to both of them?

Also, if I'm doing great with their first kid, I may go back to the adopting option later on should the kid be old enough, so perhaps there can be a second adopted child if it goes well! :)
  • I would prefer genetics

But before you get you a child, you might reconsider those tools behind Aditya & Matthew (A child is coming, you know)

    Don't worry, a child couldn't reach it. ;)

When my Sims have offspring, I usually give them one trait from one parent when they hit the Child age, then for teen it's a trait from the other parent, then at YA a trait that neither parent has. So you could take Outgoing from Aditya for the Child trait (good trait if you want to go for Social Butterfly aspiration) then maybe Music Lover from Matthew, then maybe you throw a wrench in the works. Or Clumsy isn't too bad if you don't mind dishes breaking when they wash them in the sink. That way you could get the genetics and not necessarily worry about bad traits.
