Are Game Changers Still Relevant?

I recently unsubscribed from a popular Sims Game Changer on Youtuber because they hardly ever released new content. And it made me think- I feel like the "Game Changers" don't really add much to the Sims community anymore.

Back in the day, we had creative Let's Play videos, machinimas and building videos that were creative and intersting. People that generally enjoyed the game and what it offered.

Now, Let's Plays are dead. The Game Changers only post building videos and videos reacting to new content/ news. Or some random "use every color in one room" challenge. And that's it.

Game Changers seem totally apathetic about the game. I understand the game can get boring after 6 years, but shouldn't they show a bit more interest when it's literally your job?..

I honestly never listen to the opinion of a Game Changer anymore. I can never completely trust them. Are they giving this pack a positive rating because they actually like it, or are they just worried EA will kick them off the program? I can't really trust their opinions with this thought in mind.

What do you think? Do you think Game Changers are still relevant? Or is this a dying form of marketing for EA? Or is The Sims 4 too old to salvage with Game Changers?

I think there is still relevance based on some of the partnerships between game changers and brands. Grim Cookies and Harrie worked with Gucci, Zillow sponsored build videos by Deligracy, Aveline and Lilsimsie. Adobe partnered with Lilsimsie for a live stream on Twitch. Front page was part of the deal and at one point she had more viewers than Ninja during the same timeframe (her highest number might have been 20,000).

There is a new meta on Twitch, the popularity of multiplayer games like Among Us and Rust are generating new sales for these older titles. Many of the game changers are playing Stardew Valley co-op - for example Dr.Gluon, Deligracy and James all play together. I would not be surprised if Sims 5 has a multiplayer or co-op mode, it was mentioned in the recent survey.

I agree I don't pay attention to them if I like a video no matter who does it I like it. I would rather read reviews from all of you on a pack I'm on the fence about or even a pack I might initially think is stupid and what were they thinking in the Sims Team? I have much more respect for our community on a whole than most Game Changers.

I think that it would be better if EA they let the developers have the time needed to blow our minds with each new pack. Then properly playtest it then let it go beta. Listen to those playtesting and playing the game beta to see what needs to be fixed and improved. Take the time needed. I would rather have a later release date on any game than it has tons of issues, bugs, or just so broken it becomes completely unplayable.

Yeah, I think to be a successful game changer you have to branch out, lilsimsie did not get her success on twitch by just playing the sims...

If EA wants their gamechangers to be successful, then I think they have to be better at giving them publicity on both youtube and twitch, even if they are not playing the sims. I think it's pretty exhausting to make the sims entertaining, so it's good if they have other popular games that they can play.

If the sims4 was not so limited, they probably could cash in on some of the popular trends as well, like with the popularity of Stardew Valley as you mentioned, if Maxis had made a farm expansion they could probably had gotten some people that would have tried to build farms for example. But right now gardening doesn't even work properly in the game. James Turner tried to build a farm in one of his recent videos, and he got frustrated that open stairs did not even work.

You mentioned the sims were not relevant, the brands reached out because they probably liked the game's player demographics and knew these game changers had a captive audience. Lilsimsie does play other games but she is known as a sims player first and for her builds. Her success and other game changers I believe started on Youtube and quite a few viewers make their way to Twitch to check out the live streams. Usually you need to be successful on another social platform like TikTok, Youtube or Instagram to be popular on Twitch. If you have no viewers you will not be discovered.

EA gives them early access to packs which helps with exposure and views and if they continue with game changers building lots for the packs that is free publicity. The promotion of their channels and brand really should be up to them.

It is fun when they play Minecraft together too. The builds that they create are mine blowing and makes me realize how limited Sims 4 is with building. I get bored playing the same game over and over again too. So I totally get when other Simmers get burnt out too and have to branch out. Goes to show whether followers are really there for the streamer or just the game.

I wish. I do think there isn't enough time to playtest the game either. But thanks this makes me happy to read.

If there was time to playtest the game, they'd spend it making more things for the game that needed playtesting.
  • Their annoying, but EA actually listens to them. They helped amplify the voices of players wanting more skintones. I’ll give them that much.
  • It has never been about what the people want and each time a poll like this comes up, mainly you can see how annoying people find this strategy of EA or each company nowadays trying to think for us or tell us how we should feel about their content. That is what the project of game changers is about, most 'big' ones and I say MOST aren't random people like you and me anyway, but they make you think so of course in order to connect with you on another level that was never done before. It's a scam, it's a lie, think for yourself and form your own opinion without their influence, it's your money and your game.
  • Game Changers still have focus meetings, btw. When they have sims camp and stuff. A few of them mentioned it. One talked about how often they bring up the lack of personality and other issues and ways to fix them and one talked about bringing up skintone issues prior to last year and was met with non-answers. Game Changers are trying to do things, it's just up to the team to listen to them.

Game Changers have been talking about skintone issues before last year, too. I'm pretty sure what really fueled the decision to fix those issues was certain world events and the fact that it was hurting the game's image of being inclusive, something they push for so much, in addition to GCs bringing more awareness to it.

The reason we got things like naming your cowplant and black and white shelves is because they are easy. They are simple, easy things to put in. That's not the GC's fault. I can't believe people don't realize that.
