Building a desktop: give me your opinions on the components i'm considering.

So, after an initial discussion where i asked for your insight about which computer i should buy to improve my gaming experience with sims 4, i've decided that i'll buy a desktop, but i'll be buying the components one by one.

So, now i would like to ask your opinions on the components i'm considering atm:
- graphic card- Powercolor Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB OC
- ram- Team Group T-CREATE CLASSIC 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200Mhz CL22 Silver
- cpu- AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.9Ghz 65W s/ Cooler

*i'm also open to suggestion on other components as this is a work in progress

I can only play at medium graphics and offline. Switching it either to high graphics or online will cause great lag. I barely use mods and my catches, tray and saves folders are almost empty. I'm also disgusted cause i wanted to use mccc and the laptop can't handle it. I can hear the laptop doing a great effort and it heats as hell...

Your laptop probably needs more RAM.

lol? why do you get to that conclusion? he didnt say how much ram the laptop has. But i guess it has 8gb at least. MORE than enough to play the sims 4 at maximum performance. Laptops are not just for videogaming, period. Sooner or later they will underperform, and make games lag. Its how it is. And it has nothing to do with the amount of RAM or whatever.

Also, an integrated graphic card is always BAD, specially in laptops. Since we dont even know what videocard is, we can only assume.

I would recommend buying a complete desktop instead of building one from scratch.

And yet this is the worst advise, ever. Nowadays you only need a little knowledege about building computers to make one. The extreme circunstance would be if he has completely zero knowledge about computers and components, but i dont think its the case.

EDIT: Reading more about the op i realized that he is completely clueless about computers.. so well in this case, building a pc from scratch could be a traumatic experience.

Thanks for your insight :) i'm going the "build my desktop" route because: first i agree with you, i think i can get better specs at better price doing so; second because i have a tech friend that will build it to me and make sure all the components are compatible. I just need to know what i'll need for sims 4 with all dlc and all that may be to come plus a handfull of mods (not much but mccc for sure).
About this info i think that simmers that are running the game at ultra high quality with all the packs could give me a good insight and that's why i'm asking your opinions :) i won't be alone in the building process, i wouldn't dare...

It may play basegame at maximum performance, but not if you have all the packs installed, and maybe also some CC, and want to be able to surf the internet at the same time, or listen to your own music. Since they upgraded to 64 bit it can use all the RAM memory available, so more RAM will always help, regardless of video card or processor.

True and an laptop for me even an gaming laptop is only good for that time period until the technology starts moving up. Now with some laptops you can switch out video cards but if one is lucky to find one it may cost an pretty dollar.

A build similar to this will probably work: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qbyW6R

    Thank you!
  • Some great advice here.
My bit of advice, especially going on the “build your own desktop” route-: FUTURE PROOF.

If your budget allows it, try not to cut corners. You’d want this baby to run a lot longer than 5 years. Keep in mind the content that you might like in the future. Sims 4 isn’t done yet and another title is most likely in the making, with different system requirements. Not sure if you play other games.

Sometimes it’s better to get a pair of expensive, but sturdy and durable boots that will last a life time instead of cheap ones that need replacement every year. The cheaper ones turn out to be more expensive and cause more hassle in the long run.

See, I’m still wearing a great pair of boots that I got when I was only 5 years old. ?
