Can Someone Please Explain the Appeal of Build Videos?

I watch neither builds nor LPs. But I imagine watching a build from start to finish would serve useful as either inspiration or for learning how to use build mode in general. LPs (from the little I've seen of them) are like.. oh, here's some sim from somebody's legacy being ultra scandalous by having an unfaithful marriage again because that's one of the only ways to tell a dramatic story in this game.

But that's the point, right? Different forms of entertainment are going to appeal to different people. Some people like to be told a story and others don't

It's cool to see the process different builders have and the tricks they use. It also gives lots of ideas for your own builds. Somtimes it's nice to just listen to someone ramble while a house is being built especially if ya don't have time to build yourself. And sometimes ya just wanna see the end result of the pretty high res screen shots.

For me it's about getting new ideas and learning how to work around some of the limitations of the build feature. I especially enjoy the build videos with small houses, because those are also the type of lots I enjoy building myself, but they are always a challenge to make playable. I am also quite terrible at garden planning, so anything where there is a little bit of explanation for good designs on that subject is interesting.

I enjoy watching them sometimes, they give me ideas sometimes. Also I might want to check a build out to see if I want to download it.

I don't like watching them either but then I don't enjoy building in my own game. I guess it maybe depends on whether it's a part of the game that you personally find interesting.

For me it's a combo of seeing the finished product and also how they got to that stage. It's seeing new ideas or ways to do things. ^_^

I watched a couple of tutorial videos to learn how to do certain things in build mode a year ago and have to admit I had never watched one before then, or since. I wanted to build lakes, rivers and creeks in some parks, and searched the forum for some videos to help me. But I must admit they were difficult to watch through to the end.

Thanks for the explanations, I think it must definitely come down to different interests people have. For me I do enjoy building myself sometimes, but definitely have to be in the right frame of mind to do it. For me my favorite thing about the game is the ability to create a story with the sims, so that obviously lends itself more to LPs or CAS. I also enjoy watching LPs to see the differences in how people approach the game/ approach challenges they might be doing. That's probably why lately I've been into watching Clare Siobhan's series, she herself annoys me in some ways but she is great at telling a story and creating characters that you feel invested in. I think it's probably that a lot of people love the building aspect of the game. I think for me some of it is my lack of attention span too, as someone else said, I don't want to invest fifteen minutes of watch time for one cool build trick that I could use, I just don't have the patience for that (so that's my own issue).

I only watch shorter ones to see if I can learn any cool tricks from them since I'm a pretty horrible builder myself.

I like build videos cause I get tips and tricks for building and decorating myself. I've only recently really gotten into building and decorating, and I have learned some fun tricks and decorating ideas from watching videos. And I have seen some pretty amazing builds, but, to be honest, if they don't decorate in the video, and do it well, I will skip that video.

ETA: I also like CAS videos, too. I prefer non-cc CAS videos, so (again) I can get ideas on how to dress my sims with only EA. If they do use CC, it just makes me want the CC and most people don't link the cc they use.

I also like watch CC hauls, cause you can find good CC with those.
