Cats won't pee outside

I've tried this in different households and in different saves, but everytime I got the same result. After having done the "scold for peeing inside" interaction a couple of times, I got a notification according to which the cat had learnt to go pee outside. However, even after they supposedly "learnt", they never do ; they just ask for a litter box and if they are not given one, they will pee inside. Adding to the irony, the interaction "scold for peeing inside" is then available again. What even is the point of scolding the cats for having peed inside, if they CAN'T go outside ? Also, what is the point of having little doors for pets to go outside on their own then ?
Am I missing something or is EA logic just different from any other logical thinking on earth ever ?
(Teaching to dogs works just fine though.)

I can't believe there are so many problems and restrictions even though cats and dogs are literally the only big feature of this 40 euros pack (I'm French). If the addition of TWO ANIMALS in any other game was at this price, I would expect it to be the most mind-blowing, true-to-life detailed magical animals we have ever seen in any virtual reality ever. Instead of that... Well, I like the pack! I'm actually having a lot of fun with it, but still, it is not worth the price ! Has anyone seen the animation when a dog takes a pet dish in his mouth to bring it to a sim ? It becomes gigantic in his mouth, and shrinks back to its original size once it reaches the floor. For some reason they couldn't use the same objects with the same dimensions for build/buy and for the animations. I get that the team in charge of the animations is somewhat separate from the one modelling the objects, but still, it seems like common sense that the models used in the animations should be the same ones as the ones in game! Why is everything so rushed and still so expansive with this game?
Rant over.
I still love you, The Sims.
I do.

  • I am equally perplexed by the fact that cats apparently can't pee outside in the game, but must use a litter box. Still, I have two spoilt darlings in RL who will frequently come in from outside for that very purpose, and always when we have just cleaned it.

Yours may but not every cat can be trained to go pee outside and it has nothing to do with thier intelligence, it has more to do with thier traits. Cats has some of the traits thier big cousins has. As far as training an cat is on a whole different level than an dog, cats does not necessarily look to thier master for support unless they want something but with an dog they value it's master company. Cats are very clean if they are domesticated and the reason for litter boxes. In the game sure they can make it happen for an cat to pee outside. Another thing cats are very private when it comes to doing thier business.

I think that you may be missing the point. It's not about whether or not a cat can be trained. Some can, some can't. Remember the cat-on-the-toilet craze? Or, all of the cat owners running around with spray bottles of water?

The point is that an animal that is outdoors and needs to go, should go. It goes against eons of natural instinct that they don't. Instead, they're waiting around and whining to be supplied with a man-made object that has never been found anywhere in nature?

It's totally weird and, if it's not a bug, it's a really poor design choice.

Okay I get what you are saying and forget about that part. however, cats are still private animals no matter where they go to bathroom.
  • eh I just put a self cleaning litter box outside, problem solved since I dont care for them inside.

I am about to embark on seeing if I can keep all animals outside of the house permanently and completely, without them running off, with locked gates/doors. (no idea if that even works yet)
  • It would be really nice if cats could potty outside. But cats don't do it that way, they normally bury their waste. And maybe EA thought that wouldn't be fair.
