Changing gender for your child in CAS question

It won't create a random child, the genetics will just adapt to the gender. I've never done it, I like to let the llama Gods decide my sims gender but if that's what you want, knock your socks off ;)

Would be easier though if we just had a way to influence gender during pregnancy. Maybe later.

I've done it in certain of my families where the birth order and gender are 'set'. Playing a family from a series I wrote, for one. Having a gender out-of-place sort of bugs me, you know? While it was easier to influence the gender prior to birth, (which we currently don't have), I've found using the cheat to change the gender just fine, so far. All I've chosen to do, for the most part, is click on the medical gender icon. Mostly, the genetics make the females have their father's hair color and the males, the mother's. But, if that's not what you want (because when you generate them in regular CAS, you get variations) you are free to change that out, too. If I know a family is to have a certain 'order' of birth/gender, I'll go ahead and name the child accordingly. I just had a family who had a set of twin boys as their 'second' child. I'd given them their identical twin sons in CAS, already. The second child (and all subsequent children are supposed to be singletons). I named the first one the intended girl's name and was surprised there was a twin. I chose to age 'her' up after only a couple of days as an infant, leaving her twin a baby, since he was already the correct gender in the order of things.

To open the cheats console= pause your game in live mode then hit 'Control-Shift-C' all at the same time.

If your sim eats strawberry and listens to pop music while pregnant you get a girl. If you listen to alternative music, you get a boy.

type in cas.fulleditmode in the cheat bar first and shift click on ur sim and edit in CAS

yep , I know how to do it , that's not what I was asking :)

It'll basically make the female version of the kid you already have, as opposed to generating a new child.

P.S. if you ever want to just add a kid to a family, go to Household Management while in neighborhood view. That way you can fully influence their gender as well as their looks and personality.

I changed gender in cas for one child so far. Was kind of nervous, because he was resembled both of his parents and I didn't know what would happen. But it worked perfectly. The resulting little girl could have been his identical twin, with longer hair. I only used that feature once though. No idea if you always get same/similar appearance or if sometimes changing gender gives a completely different non-family look. Maybe there's a 'go back' arrow if you don't like what happens?

If you have ever played TS3, making a sim involves playing with the sliders to create the look of their face. Changing the gender in TS3 would keep all the sliders in the same place but make them the opposite gender. It works the same way in TS4 except for we don't have sliders. Same looking sim, just the opposite gender. All the genetics stay the same. I hope that made sense.

You can always save that sim to your library before making the change and/or make a backup of the save. Just incase you regret it later.

Back up Save as > Example Save 2
Library Save to bin from the option bar above while in CAS (folder icon I think?)

It works fine, you will still see they are related to their parents.

Don't think you can change the gener of a baby, might need to be a grown up child.
