Do Sims recognize what counts as a Kitchen/Bathroom/Bedroom for renovations?

I finally caved and bought Dream Home Decorator (so far I think it su.cks, worse than Journey to Batuu, at least that worked) but one thing I've noticed is that I routinely get no pay and a reputation drop when I don't decorate the room I'm supposed to.
So I get a Bedroom Reno gig, and I do the Kitchen. I get a Bathroom Reno gig, and I do the entire rest of the house EXCEPT the Bathroom, stuff like that.

I've encountered so many bugs in this career I genuinely don't know if this is working as intended, lol.

  • How is that a bug? You don't do what they want so you don't get paid?
  • I read a post recently that stated the game doesn't recognised room types. I don't personally know if that's true, but the mechanisms in the DHD pack does seem to imply that's the case.
  • I haven't played the career in a while, since Home Deco as a career in the sims isn't something I'm interested in (Not something I'm interested in irl, either.) But I also had very little trouble actually doing what the jobs asked for.

That said, I'm pretty sure that if you're supposed to do a Bedroom reno (as in, that's the actual job) you need to make sure that the room you change up has a bed in it. The bathroom probably has to have a toilet and either a shower or a tub. Kitchens a fridge and a range top and/or oven. These items have specific interactions attached, and the game can check to see if that interaction is possible within the parameters of the room in question.

Between that and actually talking with the sims (under friendly interactions) to find out what else they like/dislike - and this isn't something they left for people to stumble across, they did it in the live stream when Johnny Zest wasn't very helpful - I had no bomb jobs while I was playing with the pack.

Maybe it's not a bug. Maybe you're just not listening to the parameters of the challenge.

    Read it again.
There's nothing in the game as far as I'm aware that recognizes what a "living room" is versus a "bathroom". It recognizes rooms, but there's no mechanism to recognize what that room is.

So the fact that DHD, an extremely buggy pack, has the ability to tell me that I didn't do what the client wants.... even though it has no way to tell that, is concerning. Is it a bug? Is it working as intended? I have no idea, because this pack is designed so badly.

Well, I wasn't listening to the parameters of the challenge by design. I want to see if I can break the pack, and since the game cannot tell what different rooms are--seriously, where is this code that says a bathroom has to have a toilet, I've lived in many houses where the toilet was in a separate room--it appears this is working as intended.... by mistake. It shouldn't be able to tell this, but somehow it is.

Well, clearly there must be some way to tell that your sim adjusted the intended room (when a room is specified) and whether or not it has the required elements. Yes, I'm just guessing as to what those elements are but as it can do this for lots, the idea that it can also do this for a specific room isn't that weird. Or maybe it's just checking to see if you replaced the bed(s) for a bedroom reno, vs replacing the toilet. But it clearly can tell, and probably because it's somewhere in the code.

Is the pack buggy? Yes. I've been lucky, but I don't doubt those who say there are bugs. Is the fact that it can tell if you renovated the correct type of room a bug? Doubtful, unless you're looking for a reason to rag on the pack.

I could be wrong, but from what I've seen there is no such code. There should be, but there's not.

If you're failing renovations, it's probably because you're not taking ALL of the client likes/dislikes into account and are only using the ones shown in the UI.
  • If there were a way for the game to tell what kind of room a particular room is, there'd be no need for mods like "Don't prepare food where you angry poop" and its sister, "Don't wash dishes where you angry poop." I've seen several youtube videos of people renovating the wrong room and still getting rave reviews.

It would be great if this were fixed. I'm not sure it can be.
  • I agree with @DaWaterRat about Sims recognising certain items rather than the room itself. When you use BB mode, you can select furniture by room type, (i.e. bedroom furniture includes beds and dressers, living rooms include sofas etc.). So if the Sim asks for a bathroom renovation and you renovate a room using no items from the bathroom category, they may not be happy.

Also, counters/sinks fall under both the kitchen and bathroom category, which may be why Sims wash their hands and prepare food in the wrong room sometimes.

I know nothing about coding but this is just a guess.
