Do your sims look like their parents and elder ancestors?

I'm not sure if it's been asked before, but I got thinking today about how the genetics work in regards to appearance. I notice that when my sims have children, typically the child looks specifically like one parent with a few altered features. One of my sims looks like a clone of his Dad and therefore looked a lot like his Grandmother. I very rarely see any sims in my neighbourhood that look like a mix of both parents. I thought it would be interesting to find out if others have similar or different experiences to me!
