Does “Talk about [skill]” increase that skill?

It should - otherwise there would be no point of having that option there, right? I don’t see the skill bar turn green

  • I think it can add some skill points to the Sim you are talking to -- I've had a Sim talk about gardening to another Sim who was close to the next skill point and they increased their skill. And I do know that telling stories about Selvadoradan culture (JA) gives the listening Sim Selvadoradan Culture skill. I don't think the Sim doing the talking gains in skill though.
  • It actually does. For example if my adult sim talked to their teen sim about cooking and the teen sim doesn't have a cooking skill the teen will gain a cooking skill from it and I believe any time they talk after increases the skill percent a bit. Same with children and asking for typing "tips". They will gain some motor skills from that interaction.

This makes a lot of sense, that it increases skill in the person you're talking to, not in you. So there'd be reason not to see your own Sim's skill bar change.
  • I think it does a little bit for both Sims. I've been surprised by my Sim suddenly gaining in a skill while talking. Must be a very small increase, though, because I don't see it happening very often.
