my opinion; Scared is a separate free update because they fully expect to nerf the ❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of it. It's one thing that's clear, product guys like Ninja hear a complaint and they are nerf first and maybe talk compromise later. That's why Vampires haven't been the same since 2018, that's why we don't have Shrine bowing, and that's why Scared sims aren't going to be a thing long term. After the stink people made over vampires, I really don't think we'll ever see Burglars. Imagine the first time a sim freaks out over a thunderstorm and sits around screaming incoherently. Most of us will laugh but the few people it annoys are going to hammer away on twitter until that's taken out. I think the Paranormal pack is safe because it seems to be tied to a specific lot type. Hopefully Scared is built with tunability in mind and even if they have to tone it down, it'll still remain somewhat affective to keep haunted house sufficiently creepy to a sim.
I just wanted to address this because you specifically named Ninja and I don't think this is a fair assessment. I'll tell you why:
So Vampires had come out and it was glorious with the break-ins. The Occult-loving community were celebrating on the forums so much that Ninja felt comfortable enough to interact with us and answer questions. Some time passed, non-Occult players bought the pack, and some of them decided they hated the break-ins. The dev team started to discuss if they should be tuned down. Ninja actually posted on the forums first, announcing that this was a possibility, and we Occult players all rose up and pushed back against this, explaining why we absolutely hated the idea and stated our arguments against it. Ninja then took our responses to the team and, in the end, he reported back that they had decided to leave it as it was. We rejoiced.
Over time, the Gurus became more active on Twitter, where players could more easily spam the devs with complaints. Meanwhile, in the feedback forum, another thread about Vampire break-ins turns up. Some of us continue to fight back. Then, the abominable happens, and some overly sensitive drama llama starts comparing Vampire break-ins to an icky, non-consensual act, taking it over-the-top into something "offensive". Cancel culture kicks in and suddenly it seems like no one is having proper break-ins anymore.
Now, I don't know if this last part definitely had a direct influence, I can only surmise, but I saw the complaint and the timing certainly seems to align. And considering how easily Maxis pulls anything even hinting at offense, my conclusion is that this is what drove the decision to nerf.
But as others have said, now that there is a proper interaction on doors and gates and no garlic is needed, I would very much like to see Vampire break-ins retuned to be as they were when the pack released. That's what we paid for, after all.
