Yes, i play the science career a lot as it is one of my favourites... I expect I could find ways to make an abduction happen if I looked into it, but I am quite sad I never got a single one spontaneously.
When Get to Work first released, my fella got abducted twice in one night once, he also got abducted when he got home from the hospital from having his second alien baby, he got abducted
constantly. Part of it was back then there were a lot more undercover aliens, and interacting with your own alien children counted as interacting with aliens ... which increased the chance you'd get abducted. To say nothing of the work goal of 'contact aliens,' which back then meant you were almost certainly gonna get abducted later that night. And it sure FELT like it was a 100% pregnancy rate, my dude got pregnant every single time, until there was no space left in his house.
So like, I get not wanting a feature nerfed. I think vampires, for example, got stupid-nerfed into the ground, and I hate it. I also dislike that NPC spellcasters are just regular sims that occasionally ride brooms. But alien abduction, upon its introduction, really was busted and really did need to be toned down. I'm willing to believe it got nerfed too hard (my guy still gets abducted from time to time, but usually I have to do something to make it a lot more likely, now, so I believe that it's nigh unseen amongst people who don't know how to tilt the scales), but sometimes new features really are tuned too high/weird and need an adjustment.
(I thought cold weather deaths were out of control, too, fwiw. Newcrest was a horrible field of NPC death upon release. Now I just
occasionally have an NPC freezing to death in the winter, which is a lot better imo. I don't mind risks for my own sims, but I don't love when it's mowing through NPCs. NPCs have tiny little brains, they can't save themselves!)
