Farm renter paying produce to farm owner

Several of my HoB households rent a lot where they pay rent by delivering some fresh produce to the lot owner's household. I'm trying to find a good way to deliver the produce, but it got harder than I expected...

Top left is Pivian Mox, an in-game born from Gloomville, he stayed for a couple years as a live-in farmer at Sür-Blyth Farm in Brindleton, and now he found that the Rossie dukedom's little farm at 4 Olde Mill Lane in Old New Henford was available as the previous renter died of old age. Pivian hopes that his old girlfriend Tammy, they were a couple as teenagers but she grew up years before him - will join him. She will inherit a big family farm eventually, and if they find back to what the got, a few years in HoB would be good training.

Well, the idea is that Pivian will deliver produce at Rossie Palace. I've not set on the exact amount yet, but I started with delivering 50% of what he harvested. In the future it seems easier to simply deliver a set amount of mixed produce. He was greeted by the Butler, and I figured the only way to hand over the 6 eggs was to give friendly gifts. Unfortunately he could only gift one egg at the time, so it took hours... and I see that I'll need an easier and quicker way.

Today Pivian delivered 3 eggs, 3 carrots, 3 basil and 3 green peas(?). I tested if he could just leave it on the ground. Then I switched to the Palace and it turned out the Butler could only eat or plant, not put in inventory because he was not the owner. Sigh...

I tried placing the 12 items on a table, and then going to b/b mode and see what happened to the produce if adding the table in the household inventory. Well, status per item did not change. Funny thing is that the options are different, probably depending on how old (ep wise) the items are. The basil could easily be moved to fridge by cursor, as if Butler David was the owner. The eggs could be "put away", and I even tested that the eggs could actually be used for cooking by cooking 3 egg based dishes. But the carrot and peas could still only be eaten.

I wish we had a crate to add small items like this, then gift the full crate and switching ownership to all the content. It now seems like I must sort out what produce can be used by the Palace. Pivian will definitely not pay rent with carrots...

Well, the palace household was served a different meal, I suppose they are used to something a little more interesting than eggs and toast...

Did anyone find a good way to hand over a bigger amount of produce to another household?

  • I have an idea if you're willing to play around with moving households instead of strict gameplay gifting mechanics. If you put all the produce in the farmer's inventory, you can temporarily move him into the palace. Once he's there you can drag and drop his inventory to whoever will collect it. Then move the farmer back to his house

If your farmer lives alone and switching households would leave his house empty (or if the palace is full of 8 sims while the farm isn't), you could do it in reverse by having your butler sim move in temporarily to collect the produce, then move back in. If the farmer needs to pay cash rent on top of that, you can also transfer household funds on top of that.

Thanks, that would work fine for now, but it might be a tad tedious in the long term as I was planning to deliver produce every day. But yes, it might be the easiest way. At the moment the farmer is alone, so the Butler could travel to the farm to collect. I was also thinking of having the Butler simply visitng the farm and having "a right to harvest there", but I assume it would cause bad relations if a sim harvest regularly from another household's garden?

Still would love a gifting crate feature, as it could be used for other situations, too. There used to be a packing crate mod intended for sims on the move, but I think it was broken when I finally decided to try it.

Try putting your produce in any storage. I'm not 100% sure it will work, but I've used selling tables from CL as portable fridges to keep food my sims had cooked for a wedding fresh and then transfer that food to a wedding venue. I put the whole table with meals inside in sim's inventory and it worked, so I assume it would work for gifts too?

I'm not sure if BG has any portable storage, but I'm pretty sure DU have portable storage chests, and maybe boxes from EL are portable too? I'm not sure.

What, you can put a table in a sim's inventory? I had no idea, better try that.

I never used the DU chest so I will try that also, I think I tried it once but it was only confusing as I could only put items from the personal inventory in it, and not furniture etc, but that is exactly what I need it for now. Might be the true solution to my problem, thanks! Don't think I ever noticed any EL boxes, I obviously need to do some catalog research :)

Yes, any selling table (from CL, JA or El) and you can bring it for example to the town square, start a yard sale there and become a rival to the grocery shop haha :)
Giant crops won't go inside those tables though, they can go only on top. Maybe they will fit inside DU storage chests.

My bad, I missed the *selling* word ;) Anyway, I've tested the EL box now, but although the gifting works much better, the unpacking is a nightmare. The Butler has to place the content into world one by one. He takes long to decide where to put the items, too. One egg, another egg, one carrot - took 1 sim hour, and there's 15 more items to go... But the worst is that the carrot can still only be eaten, not used for cooking. Egg can still be "put away". So it looks like some ingredients can only be used for cooking by the household who harvested (or bought) them?

    https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XDhupB8YbX4/YQqezlXHsjI/AAAAAAAAOMo/26qya7yubigUIxpMdz-AXkjdu4m15SCXgCLcBGAsYHQ/s16000/ts4-20210804.jpg

This means I still don't have a good solution, but at least I learned about the EL boxes, and I love that they can also be labeled. I already think of many more ways to make use of them for several family business ideas :)

I might check the DU chest, and the sales tables, too. Maybe the latter is more friendly to harvestables...
  • @Simmerville you can't drag items in bulk straight to the fridge? I think that always worked for me, unless they changed something.
  • Nope, no dragging directly from the open box. But this might depend on specie, they give different options. As the carrot can only be eaten as is, I doubt it would be a point putting it into the fridge anyway. I tried different species today and yesterday as the farmer will pay with whatever was harvested, and I found at least 3 different coding of those - eggs and basil can probably be transferred and still be cooked on the new lot, while green peas and carrots can only be eaten. If I use the box I will need to find what produce can travel without losing their options. If there are enough species for this farmer to grow something year round, I could just adjust what is produced.

Another thing might be to pay with preserves instead of fresh produce, but I would need to look into that later (have not yet tested cooking with preserves thoroughly :)
  • Oh my, this gets frustrating - it turns out that most produce I tested can be transported but with different systems; EL box, Sales table, or friendly gifting. I've not tested all produce with all 3 alternatives, but here is what I found - in case others might find it useful:

    Eco Lifestyle boxes:
+ Milk and Eggs can be "Put away" which means stored in fridge and used for later.
    - Vegetables and fruits can not be transported this way to be stored, the only option you get is "Eat item" (and probably "Plant" if placed on ground).

Sales tables (I tested a CC version, but assume they all are coded similarly:
+ Older produce like Apple, Mushroom, Carrot, Green Pea and Spinach all moved fine to the fridge. I transferred only one item per specie, but I assume bulks will work just as fine. I did not test cooking with them as ingredients afterwards, but I assume that will work (they looked to be normal).
    - Milk, Egg and Raspberry could not be removed from the sales table to the fridge.

    Friendly gifting:
+ Milk and Eggs can be "Put away" for storing in fridge, and used in cooking.
+ Basil (probably other herbs too) can be stored in fridge.
    - Carrot, Spinach and Green Pea only get the option "Eat" (and "Plant" if on ground).

    In short:
Use EL Boxes for Cottage Living produce. Friendly gifting also seems to work for these, but is more time consuming.
Use Sales Table for older produce (like Apple, Mushroom, Carrot, Spinach).
Friendly gifting seems to work with herbs and new CoL produce.

Ah, I got it, I think that's the issue with gifting. While the box/the table is considered a gift, anything inside it isn't... So that's why you can't use it normally. That's sad.

I also use a “Transfer Inventory” mod for my produce, you can transfer all harvestables at once to the fridge with it. But I don't know if it works on other lots, I've only used it on my home lot. https://littlemssam.tumblr.com/post/188723514653/transfer-inventory-after-harvesting-all-plants-i
