- MidnightAura86New SpectatorA former community manager said in twitter once that EA know they are guaranteed simmers money:
Either on release, on sale or as part of a bundle.
And I hate to admit it, but it’s probably true. I see it all the time on social media. “I don’t like this but I’m gonna buy it anyway”
She also confirmed their target market is teenage girls.
I don’t even think EA are hoping to get more Star Wars fans in to the franchise, I mean if they do it’s a bonus. But my Husband and nephew LOVE Star Wars. They don’t give a damn about this pack. Because if they want to play a Star Wars game they will go and do that.
EA know fine well this well sell because simmers will moan but they will moan whilst punching in their credit card details and that’s the bottom line. "MidnightAura;c-17636019" wrote:

There is that, but there are also millions of teenaged girls who are Star Wars fans who maybe don’t play the Sims but will now check it out based on crossover appeal. Because as Claire said the seed of these decisions is someone pouring over spreadsheets containing all kinds of criss crossing demographic information on new customer bases they can mine.- logionXSeasoned Vanguard

I watched the video.
The thing is that even if EA doesn't care, that still does not explain the decisions they took with the sims4, and I think that's what is starting to make people angry. People have asked for certain things for 6 years, hoping that EA and Maxis will listen, and instead we have gotten things that have not been highly requested and people are getting fed up with it.
It's not about the money that went to make Star Wars: Journey to Batuu, it's that money did not go to anything else. I heard the same argument about Spark'd. "Lol, that is a completly different budget" ok? but what did the other budget go to? oh right. Star Wars. "Lol, that is also a different budget" oh ok again, what else did you make? Eco Lifestyle. But that EP is full of bugs! "Oh, that's not our fault."
ok, great, I guess I won't buy anything else then.
The point of the video isn’t just about SW JTB, it’s about how decisions about the game, and it’s marketing are made overall. Spark’d was another attempt to bring new players into the community because EA doesn’t think of The Sims Community in the warm cozy way the name would suggest when they hear “Sims Community” they think pool of buyers. Their only mission is to appeal to the largest pool of buyers possible to recoup the highest possible profits for their shareholders.
As Claire said the Gurus and devs do care what we want, they do try to go to bat for us, but if what they produce isn’t hitting high profit margins if new people are coming in to play the games then they are not going to get money allocated to do the things we’re asking them for, period.
It doesn't feel like that money is going into improving the game though, sadly. Just more, and more shallow packs. Well hopefully this pack will please their shareholders and draw in new players... I wonder how well it will be received by new players though, I suspect they will be able to play through the story in this pack in one or two hours.
Not that EA cares though, they got their money. - MidnightAura86New SpectatorI don’t know about that. I.e expectation of millions of teen girls suddenly coming into the franchise.
I do think its a risk they can’t afford to take because they have a passive community who is known to buy anything with game changers who can influence their (at times very young audiences) to buy.
I don’t know, I think the woman in the video comes across as very patronising to her audience. People know what the gaming industry is like. (I have experience of it as my Husband is a game dev) Most people know of EA and their reputation. So telling people EA doesn’t care is like saying bears poop in the woods. Let’s not forget as a game changer, it’s in her best interest for the game pack to sell well. Really this girl isn’t saying anything we didn’t know already. "KaeChan2089;c-17636069" wrote:

Glad I am not the only one who thought this.
I didn’t feel it was patronizing at all, I thought it was pretty informative as to what goes on behind the scenes and to be fair @KaeChan2089 I don’t know how fair it is to comment on tone since you admit you didn’t watch it.
Some of you have your minds made up and that’s fair, the pack isn’t for you, and no there’s no guarantee this will bring new simmers in droves some ardent Star Wars May think this isn’t worth their time compared to games wholly dedicated to the movies but that’s the gamble businesses take when they introduce something new. But I can tell you for sure, if The Sims keeps doing the same ol’ same ol’, reintroducing the exact same themes in the exact same format Seasons, Pets, Generations, etc over and over and over it will become stale, even loyal fans will jump ship and the franchise will die. They have to experiment with brand new themes and brand new ideas because they do need brand new players if they’re going to survive. You are either growing or your dying that is just a plain fact of life.- MidnightAura86New Spectator

I think it’s safe to day that considering we are told “This is too expensive!” And animations and hair styles and swatches are re used all the freaking time, that the profit that the sims is making is not going back into The Sims. Perhaps it’s going into Fifa or Madden but it sure ain’t the Sims 4.
Why would Star Wars fans pay say £70 for a base game and game pack when they can buy a full fledged Star Wars game cheaper? Star Wars fans want to play Star Wars not dress up Star Wars.
EA want to make money off Star Wars, that’s fine but they know people are still salty over their last Star Wars games with loot boxes so rather than make a decent game without loot boxes, they are throwing it to a community who will buy it even if they don’t like it. - SilentK008Seasoned Newcomer

Really, at this stage of the product's cycle, current players have less clout.
It's the players that they don't have that they care about, because those players can be sold the entire catalogue of packs.
Us early adopters already gave them our money. When the next pack is something we really do want, the cash will flow.
You know what, I did not think about that.
I got everything minus one Stuff Pack that is not for me. I might get new stuff if it suits me.
A new fresh player would go on the Gallery and see that they miss stuff for every build... interesting. - SilentK008Seasoned Newcomer

Hmm... because there are not that many Star Wars games out there that are not into shooting-all-the-things. I played KOTOR a bit and SWTOR. But I have books and stuff for Star Wars. See every movie multiple times in the theater.
My husband told me about another Star Wars game that was coming out, perhaps I would like to play it? I asked if I could play a female character and the answer was no. Then it was not for me.
The Star Wars fandom is large and different players have different “needs” before getting a new game. One of mine is being able to play a female character and if it is a rpg I really like being able to form friendships or romances. Star Wars is a space opera and a love story. I like having some form of relationships in my game. Other Star Wars fans are more into the war-bit.
So in the end, I did not buy that other Star Wars game. But I checked it out and considered it. We are not a homogenous group :) - logionXSeasoned Vanguard

Yeah, I think we can safely assume that the problem is not that it is too expensive to make bunk beds or more skin colors or more hair colors, the problem is based on the decisions that they make on a higher level and those decisions resulted in what we got today.
I can only assume that this pack might draw in some new players that like Star Wars, but if they did not play the sims4 before...then there is very little they are gonna get out of this pack except dressing their sims up in Star Wars costumes and walk around and pretend to do a story in one or two hours.
They are so focused on drawing players in, that it feels like they care less and less about getting players to stay and play the game for a longer amount of time. - Chicklet45368Rising TravelerBut what's going to happen when these "new players" that they pulled over from the SW fanbase, realize just how lacking and buggy TS4 is and that they don't listen to or address issues in a timely manner but insist on putting out more packs that are also buggy to sweep the issues under the rug and try to get peoples attention off of the fact the bugs aren't fixed by dangling a new pack in their face? Then you have even MORE fans complaining and upset.
What people should do, is demand their money back if they play the game and within 30 days the issues are still there.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-10-01-new-consumer-rights-act-puts-gamers-in-the-driving-seat
That's the only way EA, the shareholders, and anybody else who makes decisions will understand. Because they WILL lose money when people keep requesting refunds for bugged out games. They will either be forced to compensate people for what was not a functional product or be forced to fix said issues.
