Has anyone ever started a household with an elder only?

I did once. I started off with an elderly couple, and they were raising their granddaughter who was only a child. This was before I was using any mods. The little girl was only 2 days away from becoming a teen when both the husband and wife died on the same day. That was the end of the game for me because the game culled her. If I would have it set up in MCCC mod, the child would have been "adopted" by another family in the game. I was fairly new to Sims 4 too, so I was still learning how to avoid stuff without mods.

I have an elderly sim I love to play, her name is Evelyn and she is retired; I money cheated her retirement savings. Her back story is she is single/widowed, her husband died years ago of a heart attack. Evelyn and her husband were unable to have children, although they would of loved to have em. Now Evelyn lives in a quaint little cottage in Brindleton Bay with her fluffy kitty. She enjoys reading, writing, beekeeping and gardening, and is rather good at each. She can make friends with anyone and is very likeable. I have “auto-age” turned off in this particular game, so I’m not worried about her randomly dying of old age. I gotta say playing an elderly sim is probably the most relaxing.

I did a challenge with an elder, so I started the game with only her. She ended up friending a runaway teen in town (I didn't even know the game generated single teen households) and she moved the teen in and left the teen all her money and her home when she passed at the end of the challenge.

I have often created a grandparent and grandchild household, but the challenge was the only time I started with an elder only.

Never played an elder, not since trying it briefly in TS2 way back (might have been granny and gramps Pleasant, I dunno). They just don't seem that interesting to me. Even though, right now, I am playing with aging off, they are STILL not interesting. I might just set up a retirement home, move all premade elders there, so I can completely forget about them, without their families getting sad. Any randomly generated townie elders, I usually delete, depends, really. Some are interesting enough to age down and be allowed to continue their life.

One thing I discovered they can be as interesting or as dull as the player makes them be. I think where the dull part comes into play is when the player is just doing a "waiting for death" game, and not really doing anything much with them. I have only really played with the elderly once in Sims 4, but in Sims 3 I played with several, can't recall the exact number. But when I had them living life to their fullest, they were just as enjoyable if not more than the younger sims.

I've never played a household that was just a single elder, but I have had elders living with their children and helping raise grandchildren and such. Someday I'd like to play a family long enough that I get to play a retired couple in old age just enjoying their last days together going on vacations and such. That's the dream. Yes, I have, but only once for the Homeless Elder challenge. Once that was finished, she married her younger community gardener boyfriend and they eventually got married. I had some of the most fun I've ever experienced in a challenge with Iris and Leonardo.

I even wrote an entry in the SimLit Short Story challenge about them. That story ended up being a prologue along with one chapter I posted on my first Wordpress blog about them. Sadly, that was all I wrote for them though and haven't played that save file in quite awhile.

It was a blast while it lasted though. Hmm, I might just have to revisit them soon or start another save playing an elder or two. Maybe after I finish my try at the Not So Berry challenge. ;)

No I haven't. I like idea, but since I play on normal lifespan and aging on, there isn't much point. The sim would die before I could afford potion of youth or get things going otherwise.

I play with elders sometimes. I'm not a family player, so I just have them live alone. I also play with aging off so I don't worry about them dying. Mine are always retired because I don't want them to work full time. I sometimes gave them part time jobs in TS3, but I can't do that with TS4. I have as much fun with them as I do with any other age group.

I wish there were more unique activities for elders, but I don't think they're a popular enough age group to warrant the time and money needed to revamp them.

I did in Sims 2, I've been meaning to try it in Sims 4.
