I use the ingredients for recipes but there’s still an excessive amount of produce. If I store too much in the fridge, it makes the menu so laggy when I click on it. It also clutters up the fridge with things that don’t need to be refrigerated and then it’s hard to see what I need when ordering groceries. I also think it’s weird that most produce doesn’t spoil, yet the Cottage Living stuff does, so I have to keep those in the fridge. We could really use a sort feature for the fridge inventory, I think. It doesn’t seem to organize things in any sensible order. Now I generally have one sim do the gardening and cooking who keeps all the produce in their inventory. But this can make the game lag, too. So I try to keep 10 +/- of each ingredient (then I select all of the stack and then deselect what I want to keep, then sell what’s left) but they accumulate so fast during their growing season. I noticed the nectar machine can pull ingredients from the refrigerator. I also noticed the new storage box that came with Horse Ranch and was disappointed the nectar machine didn’t pull from that. It would be nice to store all the produce in a chest like that but managing it manually is a pain. Now maybe it’s just me, but I think it would be great if produce didn’t stay fresh forever, because then I would have to use it or get rid of it faster. It’s weird how the Cottage Living produce can expire but the other produce lasts forever. There’s no incentive to can non-expiring things (managing those jars is another thing!) except it does stretch the ingredients out more which is something I don’t need because I’m overflowing with ingredients. How do you handle all this stuff? I’d be open to using mods that could help manage it. I searched for a mod that makes produce spoil but only found mods to keep food from spoiling.

I did discover Morel mushrooms don't need to be refridgerated, but have no clue just where to keep those so that they're convenient. Yikes. I do end up with spoiled goods. I'd love it if Produce would actually spoil. But what I would love even more is if spoiled eggs/milk and such couldn't be sold for money. Spoiling doesn't make much sense if you can still make the same amount of money from selling spoiled stuff.

I keep certain amount of evolved seeds in a trunk for future use. If I have two different qualities of produce my sims usually keep the best ones for seeds or cooking and sell the rest. Preserves are good if you have produce that you don't grow but want to keep. Plus you can make three meals for the price of one which is good when your sims have no money. And sometimes you can't find the right ingredient to buy for a recipe you want to cook. The remaining produce, if too much of it, gets sold, either straight out of their inventory or sometimes I like to take them to the farmer's market to sell their produce and then buy other things they need like flour or sugar. My sims also don't harvest every day or limit the amounts of plants they plant in their gardens which gives them more time for other activities.

I only keep 5 of each harvestable in the fridge and sell the rest immediately. So many of them are interchangeable anyway (e.g., a recipe just calls for a berry, doesn't matter which one it is), you don't have to grow every harvestable under the sun. Still, it sometimes felt like I had way too much to deal with. Home Chef Hustle helped with that. I seem to be using much more produce than I used to because of prepped ingredients (not to mention milk, cheese, flour, meat, etc., which I only occasionally bothered with before).

The only plant harvestables that spoil are the four Crops--lettuce, aubergines, pumpkins and mushrooms--from CoL.

And you can plant some on community lots, too. Perhaps catnips or flowers would look better than potato, though.

I tend to grow a limited amount per household. Often I specialize on certain crops per house (or per district), and often they will grow so and so because hey need that crop for making so and so. I sell what I don't need to the Goldburg(?) shop, I placed it in other worlds tan just Henford, though. Sims in need of as much money as possible will sell during the farmers market at Finchwick. In my fridge I try not to keep more than 10 per specie, I realized I will never need more for cooking, canning or whatever.

I really wish there would be a system for packing say 5 or 10 items in crates, that could be stored or sold in bulk. Put your hand in the air if you normally go to the grocery store to buy just 1 onion! Or who buys just 1 egg? I'd gladly buy 5 or 10 at the time. I like that the grocery stand has a limitation, but at least for the sales tables it would make more sense selling crates. I used such a CC system in TS2, it was brilliantly made and made my farming community so much more realistic.

Would be lovely to be able to package produce into small crates and sell them. Maybe they could adjust the recipes too, so they need more ingredients. Like you would require more than one or two eggs to make an omelette for eight sims. Would also love if they added more options for number of servings.

I agree! I never sell those with the UI, I just let them spoil in the fridge to be thrown out later.

I love your mod that moves the “Open” option to the beginning of the refrigerator menu, btw.

For sure, I only ever have one of each type of plant. Maybe I should dig up the plants at the end of the season and plant new ones as needed. There are some plants I never grow (blackberries, for example) because they are not called for specifically in any recipe, and just opening a few herb seed packets will give me all the herbs I need.
