Seriously, how is one new career that's 90 percent buy mode a gamepack? It's insulting at this point.
We've shown that they can add careers in stuff pack, and good ones at that. The ghost hunter freelance career is one of the best ones we have.
All this is is a career slapped onto build mode. There is no gameplay added in this pack, it's legit just all build mode. There is no reason this couldn't have been a 10 dollar stuff pack.
I'm feeling left bitter wondering why we're paying 20 dollars for a single career that entirely focuses on build mode and has no gameplay.
Before somebody even mentions sectionals, those aren't a pack feature, they're being patched in. And yeah, it has nice buy mode items, so does a stuff pack.
Tiny Living Stuff was BB focused. However it was a STUFF PACK and that's the POINT. And it came with gameplay too - the gameplay of creating tiny houses.
If you're not going to put your gameplay in the Game Packs and Expansion Packs, where ARE you going to put it?

They had a full 2 minute trailer that barely showed any gameplay. I think that's quite telling that there's not much in this pack
I mean their marketing team did the same with Eco Lifestyle and Get Together.....I trust livestream more than their trailers XD
I'm wondering if they just didn't reveal all of the information about it, and it'll be disclosed in the livestream. Here's a breakdown of what previous Game Packs have offered:
Outdoor Retreat: New world New skill New traits New aspiration New social event New recipes New collectibles/harvestables Vacation mechanic
Spa Day: New venue type New skill (Wellness - manifested through reading, new meditation activity, new yoga activity) New recipes New collectibles New death
Dine Out: New venue type + mechanics for owning/customizing/running individual restaurants New recipes/drinks New collectibles
Vampires: New life state (with skill tree) New world New skills New aspirations New traits New lot traits New collectibles/harvestables New recipes/drinks New death
Parenthood: New aspirations New traits Character value mechanic Phase/mood swing mechanic New skill New relationship types New recipes
Jungle Adventure: New world + mechanics for exploring the jungle/temples New aspirations New traits New skills New recipes/drinks New death New lot trait New collectibles/harvestables Vacation mechanic (new if OR isn't owned)
StrangerVille: New world + mechanic for experiencing the StrangerVille Mystery storyline New aspiration New traits New collectible New career New death
Realm of Magic: New life state + with skill tree + personal spellbook mechanic New aspiration New traits New skill New death New world New collectible/harvestables
Star Wars Journey to Batuu: New world + mechanic for experiencing the Batuu storyline New aspirations New traits Vacation mechanic (new if OR and JA not owned) New recipes/drinks New collectibles
This doesn't include all of the CAS and B/B these packs add, nor things like new music stations, new club activities/requirements, the new lot size (64x64) first introduced by JA, the laptop introduced by SV, and all of the little nuances that comes in each pack.
With all of that being said, here's what we know about Dream Home Decorator:
New active career (mechanic for interactive B/B mode) New mechanic for modular sofas
Unconfirmed but highly likely: New aspiration(s) New trait(s)
Possible: New skill(s) New lot trait(s)
I'm very interested to know which of the usual suspects of new additions might also be in the pack. It doesn't seem like it would offer new collectibles/harvestables, recipes, or death. So maybe a new world?
Even still, that would bring the list to something like: New career New aspirations New traits New skills New world New lot traits Modular sofa mechanic
Which, when comparing other packs, it still seems a bit light. Idk! The emphasis on the career mechanic makes it feel most comparable to Dine Out to me, in that the emphasis is on the mechanic of a career. And we see with DO, there are not a lot of other new additions when compared to the other GPs. So, I guess it makes sense that this pack could be so small.
But at the same time, it feels like Stuff Packs are getting bigger, so you'd think GPs would too?

I have a conspiracy theory that EA cut the Game Pack budget because of how badly JTB did. Then they gave that money to Stuff Packs, which is why Paranormal had so much content.
I miss the days when all packs had a consistent amount of content, from Sims 1-Sims 3. RIP :'(

ts4 marketing team is really bad. they seem to have no idea what the sims is about. they went from "smarter sims, weirder stories" to "inclusivity and safe space", when there isn't a single smarter sim on ts4, and it took ea 6 years and a whole national movement to fix something as obvious as skintones. and this happens because ea tries to save money instead of actually improving their products, they rather resort to lame marketing strategies like profiting on minorities and telling lie after lie. also the trailers are really bad, they should stop with the awful voiceover and childish narrative. simlish would be way better, idc if i don't understand a single word, the visuals should be already good enough to show its content.

This pack is my personal style of "game play" ..... live mode with goals to work towards while also getting to renovate and decorate is absolutely a win/win for me personally.
But, I can understand why others are upset if the only game play mechanic is the career, but you gotta also remember that the Gurus are really only on social media, they don't come to the forum and read what people posted about their game play or what the game play needs to make it more enriching. They stay on Twitter instead and what do people post about on social media (I don't mean the complaining and demanding posts) ... but what other posts? Probably 85% of people's posts on social media are about .........
BUILDING
That's what the Gurus always retweet or like or comment about.
Not many people (or at least those that actually gain attention from the Gurus ... I only follow the Gurus) are about actual live mode game play.
The only time I see people mention live mode game play is when they're demanding stuff or complaining about stuff. Nobody just posts and shares pics about this fun thing happened or that happened, etc.
So, I think to them .... Building and CAS is what most people focus on in TS4. They say it all the time, every time a new pack drops "We can't wait to see what the community comes up with". As in, what type of houses/lots will you create with these wonderful BB items from this pack/kit.
They don't say "We can't wait to read about the stories you created while playing this pack or feature"
Actually I never really thought about this but you're right. The few people I follow on twitter are story tellers and I love to see what they come up with. I never or almost never follow builders because although they are amazing, just like a novel I want the characters to engage me. The focus and attention they give to builders are much bigger.
My hope with this pack still (though I doubt it based on trailer) is that we get to "see" sims doing some work painting or fixing things or doing more than tablet work??? it's a senario I love role playing in sims. How fun if they could actually "do it"
Yeah, it doesn't look like a game pack. Some GPs came with a new world even, and ones that didn't, offered quite a lot of new activities and mechanics. But after a closer look I was impressed with amount of BB that comes with it, definitely more than we usually get in a SP. So, this pack is more like a two stuff packs for a price of two stuff packs. Still only stuff and I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I've bought expansions on sale purely for BB and CAS, so who am I to judge haha.

This pack alone adds many new decorative options that weren't possible before. Sure it does nothing for gameplay, but thinking about all the new decorative opportunities this pack offers has me really excited. I really enjoy diverse living spaces in my game, and this pack seems offers many new decorative options, both in terms of appearance and functionality with all those new modular pieces.
I think the problem lies within the fact that it is a GP, which are supposed to be gameplay focused. Gameplay is generally seen as the domain of live mode and not BB. Granted, if you are solely a builder, it is the only kind of play you are interested in and fair enough.
I disagree on this being the first BB focused pack, though. Tiny Living Stuff was very BB focused in my opinion. It introduced the specialized residential lot concept and encouraged building in specific ways (tiny homes). Plus there have been two BB kits thus far, but they are gimmes. Then again, if I want to get super technical, the SP model is built around "stuff" for BB with one hero object or very narrow slices of gameplay (but even I feel this is slightly unfair since they were not all particularly innovative for building).
Build/Buy is game play for many players though. And when I say BB focused, what I mean is giving new build buy options that weren't previously available (I guess Tiny Living is very BB focused), not necessarily new styles, more specifically new features/functionality within Build/Buy. Modular sofas, modular shelving units, modular kitchen appliances, are all new additions that open up new creative possibilities in BB.
If you're of the opinion that Game and Expansion packs should be Live Mode focused then that's fine, and I agree to a degree, but Build/Buy is a valid form of game play, I simply think it's interesting that they dedicated an entire Game Pack to expanding Build/Buy. I'm still waiting for more info before I make a final opinion. Regardless of what I think I'm still going to get it on sale.
It's a life simulation game, so it's fair to expect life mode expanding gameplay in a game pack. BB is just an add on to the life simulation.
