But six is also pushing it. Still, the question was how many can you (I assume comfortably) handle. But my absolutely preferred number is probably 5 + 2 pets, so 2 adults, 3 kids (of whatever age, but preferably only one toddler at the time - again, I can handle (maximum) 2 but I prefer not to as it can get a bit tedious), 1 dog and one cat. I really have to force myself sometimes to play 3-sim households or even just 2-sim households, or I'll always end up with 5 :D

For me the secret in handling (wrangling) this many Sims is to have them all at full autonomy. Then I can focus on the ones I need to focus on the most. Also, use the pause button, it is your friend! Queue up actions for those who won't or aren't doing what they should be doing, homework, work tasks, laundry, et al, and then un-pause. I'm never happier than when the lot is bulging with Sims. I also have walked down the dark path to using the Make Happy Cheat more often than I care to admit. The Sims' needs just decline so very rapidly in this game, it's almost a joke. And, yes, I do have a mod or two or three. ;)
@GalacticGal That is funny! I do the pause thing too. Especially in the morning when everyone is about to leave. I call it 'the morning rush'.
I say generally 6, but it depends on the ages and occupation of your family. I've had the misfortune of creating a family of 8: 3 teens, 1 YA, 4 adults. 1 adult had an overnight job, 2 had day jobs, and 2 had evening jobs. The teens did monetized skills. That family was so chaotic, that I had to split them up because they drove me nuts! It probably was my own fault due to the wide variety of schedules. I probably would have gotten away with it if they all had the same career. I'm also guilty of trying to build wealth fast.
If you have a family of 8 with mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and children, you probably would be just fine.
However, with small families, you can really enjoy each sim. When you have more than 4, things get a little chaotic. - I-Sim4ever_807 years agoSeasoned AceI love a full house the more sims the better
If the game could handle ( and was able to have ) 8 sims a cat & a dog then I'd be super happy
Happy simming everyone - Kittybass7 years agoSeasoned AceI sometimes play overstuffed households. The most I've handled at once was 17 (16 sims +1 cat). Anything more than that, my game starts acting funky. I love big crazy households. I don't always play huge ones, when they start to make my head spin I switch to a normal save with either a single sim or a couple.

- It depends on age. If you’re talking more than one baby or toddler, playing can get a bit frustrating. I like being able to play without always worrying about other Sims.
- Wow I would have never expected so many people who enjoy a full house. I guess I may be doing something wrong :D
- The largest household that I've tried to play had four Sims in it. I failed at being able to keep up with them all. I can handle households with two Sims but even that can get out of control for me. But I'm working on it because playing single Sims, which is what I have always done, can get tedious.
I'm nowhere near being able to add a pet or toddlers yet. - ChadSims27 years agoSeasoned RookieEasily 8 wish the number went higher.
