hi I bought ROM a few months ago when it was on sale and really thought I would enjoy the magical aspects of it but I just dont get it - It seems like learning to be a witch/wizard will take weeks of IRL time to train and then learn all the spells - and I'm not a very patient person and would get really bored just having my sim read a book for hours on end (like the vampires had to do to progress) Also it says on the blurb that they get a magical pet thing but I have created a witch in CAS and not had a pet attached to it? I know a sim can either Start out as a normal sim and ask a sage at the magic hq to start them off as magical or Make them magical in CASI have read the instructions and help guides and it just seems that making a magical person and training them up will take sooooo long and I will get bored to bits I just know it - is there any cheats (not mods as I dont use them) to hurry this up? And where do the little pet things come from? I would really appreciate any help as I am befuddled and bamboozled by this pack and I love the countryside and the magical bit is nice, the gameplay has eluded me so far and I would love to know what Ive got to do Thank you

The familiars can be found in the realm of magic. Either through the one store that sells them, or else there are some scattered about the Magic HQ. They look like colored crystal balls.You can also have your spellcaster Practice Magic (it's an interaction) which will increase their caster points and potentially have them discover spells - all but the top three spells can be learned this way. The sages can also teach spells and potions.If you focus on spellcasting, you can actually get them from start to Virtuoso within a few sim weeks, even as little as one if you use magic rather than cooking and don't have a job.

I’m not much help with cheats on this, but I can say I didn’t find it all that difficult to advance with magic. If you spend time in the magic area you can learn a lot from the sages, especially if you duel for knowledge. The pet familiars can be won in duels, or purchased from the little stalls in the market area of the magic realm. If you have the pets EP, you can also make your pet become a familiar.

@foxybilly, You don’t need books to level up as a Spellcaster. Like others mentioned in this thread, you can go to the magic realm and keep it all practical. Leveling up goes pretty fast if you take the effort to interact with other spellcasters or practice yourself. Boost your relationship with the Mages and they’re much more keen to share their knowledge with your sim. Or get yourself a cauldron and start experimenting. Indeed, it will all take some effort, but it shouldn’t take long. If that’s too much work, there are console cheats (no mods needed) that you can use to get your sim to the level you want them to be. Thank you for your help, I just couldn't bear to do what I had to do with the Vampires and literally fast forward through 3 books and the ultimate vampire book so that they could be grand master vampires and had all the points they needed - it was like watching paint dry!!

Can I ask how do they learn new spells? is it at the cauldron? or the other magic people? I wish they had done a step by step guide of what to do as its very confusing as there are tons of spells and i worry I will get bored before my sim has mastered them unfortunately! I am someone who likes to play a sim with all the relevant skills maxed out (via cheats) so im ready to go straight away so having to 'skill' someone up is not usually part of my gameplay

You seem quite anxious about the prospect of getting bored. Getting bored is not a bad thing, it's just your brain reminding you that you could be doing something awesome right now.
Anyway, learning spells is actually way too easy. You can just go to the Realm and make nice with the Sages and they'll teach you a new spell. Potions my spellcasters learn from experimenting at the cauldron. But if you don't like to progress skills through gameplay then this will indeed not be fun for you and you should probably use the cheats.

If you practice the magic, and use the spells that you do know whenever you can, travel to the magic realm once a day and learn 1 new spell and 1 new potion from each of the 3 sages, you learn REALLY fast. One of my teen sims was a spell caster. She was max rank and all spells and potions earned before she aged to YA. All while going to high school and kept up her A grade.

Once you learn the potion to make all your needs perfect with just 1 apple, it's a cake walk and I find most of my sims learn it pretty early on.

You can learn spells a bunch of ways, from buying books to practising to asking sages for spells.

For familiars, there are 2 types. One type are objects you have to buy or find, and the other is an interaction you have to use on your existing pet in-game.

Learning spells is actually ridiculously easy, just befriend all the sages and then ask them to teach you a spell, they'll teach you one a day each so it doesn't take long to learn them all
