Kind of a silly question about the community lots.

I have to admit I kind of ignored this aspect of eco but as we get closer to the cottage living pack I realize there's a real use for the community gardens.

My question is will townie's actually use the different community spaces? Will they garden create or sell? Or simply use it like a generic Park?

  • This was not really covered, but if I had to wager... I'd say no. I did not see the community gardens, but if they are a proper lot then there is a good chance I am wrong. Otherwise, I don't think they would go through the trouble.

We could always be pleasantly surprised, though.

Yes, they will. You will see NPCs planting in community gardens, so if you want to grow something there, be quick about it.

Community spaces function as intended. However, make sure to remove those garbage dumps in other versions as otherwise sims will keep dumpster diving there.
Also, stalls will open on all versions, so if you want a community garden with a produce stall, go ahead. No need to hire a vendor.

On the market place will NPC Sims automatically sell at booths like at the flea market?
  • Something you may want to consider: Old New Henford will already come with a "community garden" area that is just in an open area rather than a lot, and will probably function in many ways like the community lot/community garden, other than perhaps having other sims autonomously plant things. So given the limited number of lots in the world, if you don't want to give up one of your lots, you would still have that space. There may be other random planters scattered throughout the world; I definitely saw a couple of them next to the festival area.

I actually really like the community lots, including the community garden. I have several throughout all of my other worlds, and I was originally planning to add a community garden here, but I think given how many other things I want to do with the lots in this world, I'm now going to just use the community garden area that's already there.

Yes, they will. They usually sell fizzy juice, candles, eco upgrade parts, and garden produce.

There’s the community garden in Willow Creek but I’ve found it disappointing because we can’t plant or graft there. I hope they have improved the way this works with Cottage Living, but I don’t necessarily expect that they have.

I’ve also tried having a community garden on a lot of its own, and plants don’t really mature there and/or they revert back.

Sounds like Eco Lifestyle community spaces work differently.

Yes, the one in Willow Creek is disappointing in that way, as is the one in Oasis Springs, and the garden area in Granite Falls. I'm hoping this will be different, as it appears that the planters in it are all empty, unlike the ones in the base game neighborhoods that were already filled with plants. So if we can't plant in them, that would make the empty planters purely decorative, which would be an odd choice, to say the least. Which is not to say it couldn't be that way.

Who knows, maybe we'll get really lucky and find that they went back and updated the base game areas while they were at it. We can dream, right?
