Did not watch the full video since I'm about to head to bed and it probably answers my question, but I figured I'd ask anyway - what does everyone love so much about generations? I never had that pack when I played the sims 3 and was just wondering what exactly it adds to the game!
I actually don't think it was that great... It added a lot of little things that were nice like events for teens and learning to drive, but it was also annoying because it took away a lot of players' autonomy and made parent sims discipline their children and enforced curfews.
I never really liked that pack much, I guess partially because I knew everybody loves it and had very high expectations. Some stuff was cute, but most didn't seem to change much in the game. The things I remember the most was the boarding schools (which were a fun idea, but as a family player I just didn't like to send my kids away for good), the canes making Sims so slow that I just never used them, because I had no patience, and how weird/buggy grounding a child was - a grounded kid couldn't go to school without making their parent mad (making the kid grounded for even longer), which seems counterintuitive in the first place, but then they'd obviously also get mad if the kid had worse grades... from not going to school.
I actually like the values system in Parenthood much more than I liked anything in Generations, and I'm not a huge fan of Sims 4. If Parenthood had more new stuff in it, it would basically be the Sims 4 version of Generations.- wexxam5 years agoSeasoned Ace

Hey there! Just a heads-up: I moved this thread to the Game Feedback section. :)
Thank you! And can you let the sims team know we need a Generations Expansion pack this year? Thanks :D - DonroaAkashu5 years agoSeasoned AceI have not watched the video, I tried to watch that Youtuber once but could not continue; but I do have Generations for TS3, and some things were cute, but most of it I could not relate to, not being american. The prom is not really that big of an event here, although it was cute that the teens could form love stories on it; the cane was a nice touch, but I agree, it made sims too slow, the boarding school was fun to send sims to, but I would never send a sim I cared for, they often got stuck there, and so forth. I like Parenthood, the value system is an interesting idea. I think it is TS4 take on 'generational play', and I don’t need any more.

Would be cool to add a stuff pack that adds cars maybe even option to be a car salesman and owning a car lot. But as it is now high school seems useless in the game. They get no skills from it that I have noticed homework don't even add anything, they don't even seem to bring new sims home as friends like in older sim games I have seen children age sims bring friends over though. - Sims 3 has never been my favorite of the games because I loathe rabbit holes, but I did appreciate what generations brought to the table. I miss having the costume box, tree houses, hopscotch, and sleepovers/pillow fights for kids. I was playing Sims 4 last night and wanted so badly for my sim's daughter to have a sleepover with her cousins, but it isn't possible right now. It also annoys me that only two sims can play dolls with the doll house. We have so little for sims kids to do as a group. We need more GROUP things for them to do. I will be extremely angry if they give us a school pack that is all rabbit holes. I want my teens to get a real prom. I want real field trips. The kids can go to a museum or the park or something. I don't care as long as I can follow my sims where they go.
The strollers/prams also need to come back, so my sim can go for a walk with their toddler instead of leaving the kid home alone or hiring a nanny, so my sim can go on a long walk around the neighborhood. We also need cars or a better way to transport a group of sims. My sims went to the spice festival, and it would've been so much easier for them to travel TOGETHER. The dad rode his bike while the mom and kid walked. A blizzard started, and they had to walk a long distance before the loading screen came up. A car, like it did in Sims 2, could speed up the transition to the loading screen because it'll move them to the end of the neighborhood faster.
I've only been playing TS4 since March 2020, and I am already losing interest. I have all of the packs except Star Wars and Snowy Escape, and it still feels so empty compared to past versions. TS2 is still my absolute favorite. I have great respect for those of you who have stayed with this game for nearly 7 years. - sallycutecat5 years agoNew Ace

Adult sims could get midlife crises wants which means they were unable to be removed from the wants section until the timer expired.
What exactly were these wants? Could you give some examples please?
Did the midlife crisis change autonomy or add anything else to that Sim's behaviour?
I've seen a number of youtubers say they want midlife crisis, but they describe some event where the Sim may leave and you have no control over it. Is that at all what midlife crisis was like in Sims 3? - wexxam5 years agoSeasoned Ace

For example your sim could get a midlife crisis want to leave their partner, buy a new expensive car, move homes, etc. It's like a major event in their life that they want to change. However if you accept these wants you can't right click them away like normal wants. You either fulfill the want or wait until it expires. I think they last a few days. There is no way for your sim to leave without your control, they might be a bit confused.
The fun thing about these midlife crisis wants is that you can think of them as your sim having a passing thought of doing something so drastic and not act on them, or you can decide that your sim actually wants to do this. - dianed4855 years agoSeasoned AceI want Generations too !! And active school!!
- I know this is a hot take but Parenthood added as much to the game as Generations and honestly in a better way (you can actually parent how you want instead of the enforced curfew and scolding, no IF dolls) for half the initial price. Some of the things that Generations was selling itself on were included in the TS4 base game anyways (you couldn't have a proper wedding in TS3 until that pack dropped) Yes I still miss strollers and bachelor parties and getting rich off wedding gifts.
EDIT: and yeah the daycare profession too. But EA is allergic to generating new kiddos so I guess it'll never happen (not like it stopped TS3 though)
