- I think if you evict them then everything stays.
- Selling the furniture should keep it in the original house.
- If you sell the furniture it stays with the house.
- Oh that is good to know. :)

It works in my game.
But, i'm assuming the OP is speaking of when one sim moves out of their home to move in with another sim.- I moved a family out of a house I spent a couple hours decorating...chose Sell Furniture without thinking, so the house was empty when I moved in another family :(

This.
It's either bugged or it's a feature that was left out. In TS3 when you moved a sim out the furniture stayed if you chose for it to. It's something that needs to be tuned in a patch and I mentioned it to Simguru Daniel on Twitter some time ago.
Update
I think it's a bug since some are seeing it and some arn't. I"ve seen this happen regardless of what I pick. I believe it might have been broken with a patch.- Hmm sell furniture always works for me no matter which sims game I played. As insurance perhaps you should save the fully furnished house in your library and use it as back up if stuff disappears when the family moves.

I use sell furniture all of the time and it stays. Maybe it's bugged but just to be safe you can evict them.
