Playful is becoming an issue

Very recently, maybe in the last few days, a LOT of my sims are becoming playful and then very playful and then hysterical and that's leading to death by laughter
It's so bad I've had 3 sims nearly die in one gaming session from hysteria (it happens real fast) and I had to exit the game so they wouldn't die and when I get back I can't play as them for several sim days or the hysteria is still active

Is anyone else having a hysterical death problem?

I have aging off and haven't seen the reaper in my game until CoL and the death of livestock brought back death... and now death by laughter quite specifically
  • One of my Sims keeps getting Hysterical. His playful and happy buffs add up to 10 when this happens. I thought they needed 15 to get hysterical, but he's hysterical at 10. Did they lower it at some point? I once had a glitch where he got hysterical even though he had no playful buff. He didn't die because he's a teen, but it has got me worried about older Sims becoming hysterical when they shouldn't and dying from it.
  • @Sallycutecat I've been wondering the same thing because my sims are more inclined right now to have something other than "happy" take over such as inspired and confident to even very confident, energized, inspired. The buffs seem to, at least for me, build a stronger emotion other than happy
While they still get happy even that's becoming very happy. So if they've made it easier to achieve other emotions then playful shouldn't be connected to death by laughter if they have made it lower to just 10 to achieve the "very" emotions because death by laughter is becoming a big issue. Death by any emotion shouldn't be a thing.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person who has never, ever witnessed death by emotion in my game.

I haven't, but I have panicked a few times when my Sims got hysterical.
"What? No! You just got married! Don't keel over on me now!"
I've managed to get everyone to a mirror or gotten them to sleep in time.

  • This is partially why I put mirrors everywhere.
    "Try to calm down".
Haha! I've actually seen NPC Sims go to mirrors autonomously many times to "calm down".

    Do you have Paranormal?
I have an evil sorceror that died from hysteria, and I think it was caused by too much interaction with the little spirits and their sprinkles. It was strange to have an evil character get so playful that it killed him.

I used to allow my characters to get very playful, but seeing how fast it killed the evil sorcerer I've been sending characters to the mirror to calm down anytime they get that playful. I wonder if the spirit sprinkles may have had something to do with his demise though, like maybe it was a way of malicious ghosts to mislead sims into death? That would be an interesting storyline, and it would also mean I wouldn't have to worry about my other characters getting too playful when they're not interacting with spirits.
